Playlist "Psyche van het Folk", Radio Centraal, Antwerpen. Former Yugoslavian Acid Folk, Folkrock, Psych Folk, Prog Folk, Folk Prog and Alternative Rock with folk touches. S VREMENA NA VREME * From "Suncana Strana Ulice"(1973) I only have one track but I did choose not to play it. * From "Si Jana" (1974) : MD1 : "Tavna Noc" 4 min 4 Nicely arranged soft progpop/folk song. * From "S Vremena na Vreme" (1975) : Tr.1, "Biblijska Tema" 5 min Tr.3, "Trazi Mene" 3 min Tr.11, "Tema Classica" 4 min 12 Not incredible, but fine original tempered folk(rock) like music with various progressive touches, but still also as an alternative pop group. I like the chosen tracks. Bonus Tracks from CD : Tr.13, "Sumnja" 3 min 3 A nice psych folk pop track. * From "Moj Svet" (1978) : MD5 : "I kad Budem Stariji" 4 min 4 Still somewhat similar, soft folk. Still softer, more mainstream as before. From the following album, "Paviljon G" with MOR influences I surely did not take any track. * From "Unplugged" (1996) : Tr.3, "Tema Classica" 5 min 5 27 Old folk flavoured songs played unplugged again. DRAGO MLINAREC From "A Ti Se Ne Daj" (1971) MD6 : "Moje Ladje" 5 min 5 32 The other track I have I did not find so good. Song orientated, with soft prog rock band and some acoustic guitar. SUNCOKRET * From "Moje Bube" from bonus tracks CD (1975) : Tr.12, "Kara Mustafa" 2 min Tr.13, "Moje Tuge" 3 min 5 The earlier version of "Kara.." sound more fresh. Soft prog pop item with folk influences, and somewhat popular sounding rhythms / melodies. "Kara Mustafa"'s first version is Trees like. "Moje Tuge" is psych folk styled. Second version is somewhat similar, but it's nice to compare both versions. Some of the bonus tracks on this CD came from BOOM rock festivals, which were organized in the period from 1972 to 1977 in Ljubljana and other towns. A few other tracks came from singles. * From Moje Bube (1977) Tr.4, "Moje Tuge" 4 min Tr.5, "Moj Derdane" 3 min 7 * From "Si Imam Pesmu Za Sve Ljude" (1978) : MD7 : "Covek Koga Znam" 6 min 18 50 Sounds a bit more like Curved Air / Earth and Fire with 70's hammond organ, electric guitars with hard rock influences. MAJA DE RADO & PORODICNA MANUFAKTURA CRNOG HLEBA * From "Stravanje"(1974) : MD8, "Covek i Pas" 7 min 7 57 The few other tracks I have from compilations I did not find so fantastic to include. This is much better with nice Hammond organ and flute. The mood is emotionally somewhat depressed and a very down version of a kind of soulprogrock. BEGNAGRAD * The album "Tastare"(rec. 1977, mixed 1992) I liked less so I preferred not to take any track. * From "Konzert for a broken dance" (1982-1984) : Tr.1, "Romanticna" 5 min Tr.3, "Bo Ze (ce Bo)" 5 min 10 67 Wonderful advanced folkrock (fusion) with live energy. This could also be considered as being RIO-styled because of its urban and folk chamber music rock abilities. A recommended release. KLADIVO,KONJ & VODA * From Opus Magnum 1979-1983 : Tr.6, "Vcasih Zvecer" 4 min Tr.7, "Na Cesti" 4 min Tr.11, " Zorenje " 3 min Tr.15, "Novoletna / Sasi" 4 min 15 92 This goes already in the direction of Sedmina, but with more simple arrangements. Often considered of being psychedelic folk. SEDMINA Sedmina is my favourite former Yugoslavian folk group. Very beautiful arrangements, with a personal style, nice female and male vocals. All items are recommended, but I suggest to start with "II Dejanje". (According to R.Pavlin general opinion is that the first album is much superior than the second one). I did play all their items before, spread over 2 different radioshows. It was difficult to pick out only 14 minutes (which I had left in the preparations for this radioshow) from all their items. So I took one track from an early album with singer Melita, singer : * From "II Dejanje"(1982) : Tr.4, "Circus" 10 min 10 and I took one track from a late album with Klarisa, singer : * From "Stekleni Cas" (1999) : Tr.3, "Nezakonska Mati" 3 min 13 105 Related are some solo albums from: MELITA OSOJNIK I played her latest item "Zar Ptica" (2001) before KLARISA M. JOVANOVIC * From "Hasret" (with Trio Bahur) (2001) : Tr.1, "Fatima planted a vine" (Bosnia) 6 min Tr.5, "You birds, flying" (Greece) 6 min Tr.10, "The Maiden Sang" (Greece) 9 min 21 126 Very middle eastern flavoured folk. Beautiful interpretations of traditional songs from Greece, Bosnia, Macedonia, Turkey, played with a certain magical flavour already achieved with Sedmina. And a more outstanding bluesy folk track to start with, to give a certain idea of the rest of the album. ZLATKO ORIGJANSKI * From "Ikona" (1999) : Tr.11, "My nights are a shadow, my days are with nobody" 5 min 5 150 -For rest of the radioshow :- Tr.2,3, "Poppy Fields 1-2" fragment 5 min Filmic unclearly structured ethno music. PS. Another more know film music maker is Goran Gregovic. May be I play some tracks from him in the next radioshow about former Yugoslavia. R. Pavlin : "Two new interesting "folk" records were released in Slovenia: Brina & Strings and Katalena. Both albums contains traditional material, played with new approach. The first record is accoustic, the second contains electric instruments, too. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More info : http://psychedelicfolk.homestead.com/YU.html
