Unique and beautiful sound at their best. This album has a few tremendous tracks. "Longing" is a beautiful (acoustic) chamber music instrumental, playing at emotional moments. "Sad Rain" is a nice emotional ballad like song, with very VERY beautiful mellotron. "The Flow" has some inventive (electric) melodic thematic themes flowing through its core. This is with a different female singer, but one track was written by Turid. Style is between the softest Anekdoten with Landberk for most tracks, but also with some Portishead, Björk association for a few other tracks. First track, with "powerful" female voice, is a cross between Circus 2000, Anekdoten, Landberk, and a few more influences. (PS. It's a conceptual story starting 10000 years ago, with the first inhabitants, ice which covers the land, horrifying winter and struggle for food, crying for mercy to the gods, the first Norwegian visit, until 1300-1400 with the "colonization" track, with forcing new laws to the first inhabitants, who earlier lived in harmony with what nature gave them. the expression "ultima thule" means something like the furthest point, or end of the earth, taken from a remark by Roman philosopher Lucius Annaeus Seneca, who speaks of a land so far north "noone has ever been there". http://www.jenshaugan.com/thule/ Contact group : thule@jenshaugan.com http://www.oddity.no/NorskProg/Thule.htm http://www.jenshaugan.com/thule/records.html (with sound files) --RAGNARÖK-- * Silence Ragnarök : Ragnarök (S,1976)**° Tr.1, "Goodbye Copenhagen" 3 min Soundfile : http://members.chello.se/strindberg/ragnarok/clips/farval_kopenhamn.mp3 Tr.9, "Calm-Breaking up" 5 min 8 Calm, gentle instrumental prog album. I think their later work ("Circus")although possibly with more production abilities became already somewhat more melodic and neo-styled. This album is very good. A good balance between singing, keyboards domination, flute, cello and acoustic guitar parts. The live version is more a neo-cover version of the original.
