Playlist "Psyche van het Folk", Radio Centraal, Antwerpen, Belgium CLASSIC SPANISH PROGRESSIVE FOLK SINGER-SONGWRITERS MUSIC & ASSOCIATIONS * PDI Música Dispersa (1971)****° Tr.1, "(Diálogo)" 1 min Tr.2, "Anillo-Cromo" 5 min Tr.3, "Swani" 2 min Tr.8, "Arcano" 6 min 15 Sisa's first group participation. Very crazy and funny acoustic psych songs and small instrumentals. From Catalonia. A bit like on Tea & Symphony perhaps at moments. Beside these interesting arrangements & the humour, I like Sisa's expressive theatrical high ranged voice very much too. I like especially the second LP, with its musical freshness, humour, fine arrangements. Mostly in original acid folk style. Last track is great too, but is left out for shortage in time. It's not hard to appreciate this without knowing Spanish. The musicality is solid, beautiful on its own. * Chant du Monde Lluis Llach : Campanades a morts (SP,1977)***° Tr.1, "Campanades a morts" 17 min 17 63 Singer from Catalonia, Spain. This track has fine orchestrations with choir & operatic passages arranged by Manuel Camp & Lluis Llach. Original label : Movieplay. Especially this long track I like very much. Dramatic & emotional, with operatic voice & choir at the end. The third track is even more a combination of modern & classical arrangements. Manuel Camp the leader of Fusioon prepaired the arrangements and musical production with Lluis. * Fonomusic Alfredo Carrión : Los Andares del Alquimista (SP,1976)***°° Tr.1, "Espeko Sumergido" 5 min Tr.5, "Los andares del alquimista (soledades compartidas)" 17 min 23 105 First song is with very sensitive passionate singing, almost like some of the Argentine examples I know of. The title track is with orchestrations (more or less classical with additional brass & drums, organ, guitars,..). A part of it is with a theme that has touches of the bolero. Last theme is a known medieval theme (Carmina Burana ?), nicely arranged in combination with progressive rock, old instruments & choir. Alfredo Carrión arranged the "Cyclos" album before from Los Canarios (The Nice / ELP like arrangements based upon Vivaldi). I prefer with no doubt the arrangements here. Deaf (D,197O-1972)***°° Tr.B1, "Alfa" 23 min 128 This album with a less interesting A side, has on side B a fabulous progressive rock version based upon Ravel's bolero. It's recorded in 1970. An album highly recommended for this very original track, very slowly evolving with psych improvisations. An LP only reissue in 1994 of only 500. Surprieze : zeer oude klanken en heel nieuwe geluiden (NL,1970-1972)***° Tr.B3, "Lazarus" 20 min (or until the end) 103 148 The only time when I found something that sounds like bagpipes crazy enough to fit in a piece, here a in a psychedelic freak-out madman improvisation, extremely flipped out. I think this is the craziest things I heard coming from Holland. It reminds a bit at the craziest Krautrock improvisations. Used was a three-string guitar (a high melody string put away from the other strings to use in a similar way as a sitar string, a low rhythm string, and an open key third string for the chords) connected with an echo box, screaming vocals, bagpipes like clarinet-flute (bombardere), and flutes. Very experimental too. For me this is a very interesting enjoyable (psych) piece, integer, inspired, With a pure musicality without restrictions in the melodic field or prepared composition.
