Radioshow “PVHF” on radio Centraal, Antwerp : 2007-04-28 : 8-10PM The thin line between Minimalism and New/Modern music & more chamber music acoustic rock (mostly) from Czech Republic. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- intro 3 min * Secret Eye The One Ensemble : Waywarth The Fourth (UK,2006)***°’ Tr.1, “Joker Burlesque” 10 min Chamber Orchestra with its own controlled weirdness and beauty, waltzing mostly. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog18.html#anchor_237 * Moondog’s Corner Moondog : Moondog And his Friends 2006 (US,1953+1987)***°° Tr.3, “Tree Frog-Be a Hobo” 3 min Tr.4, “Instrumental Round/…” (part 1) 1 min Tr.5, “Theme and variations/…” 3 min 8 Tr.9, “Suite n°2, first movement” 2 min -23 First piece is done by percussion on flute while not whistling but playing, for me the most unique track on the recording. You can hear in Moondog rondo’s how he used the sound and rhythm balance as an eternal fundament, comparable to minimalism. Review : http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/Moondog.html#anchor_33 * Trace V.A. : Un Hommage a Moondog, a tribute by..(var,2006)**°° Tr.3, Guillaume Loizillon :“tribal tribute” 4 min Tr.10,Stefan Lakatos :“5/4 Snaketime Rattle” 4 min Tr.16,Dragibus : “Pygmy Pig” 4 min Tr.21,Xenia Narrati : “Fleur De Lis” 4 min Tr.23,Mami Chan : “Kolo Kolo Moon” 4 min Tr.24,Moondog : « Beethoven Of The Beat » Tr.26,Norman Bambi : “Moon, Run, Dog, Catch” 3 min 23- 46 My favourite tracks from the tribute album to Moondog : Guillaume captures well the spirit of some essential element in rhythm of Moondog (with piano) and takes it back to a tribal association, but leaving it classically inspired ; Stefan Lakatos studied with Moondog and plays on the original instruments ; Dragibus made a convincing alternative rock version from one of Moondog’s songs ; Xenia Narrati’s music sound as if it is warmed up like some wind up mechanical music instruments. It has all subtlety needed. Mami Chan gives Moondog’s music a new meaning, and made this bedroom pop lullaby, a free musical box inspiration. These are for me the most outstanding and the best spirit of Moondog capturing tribute tracks. Norman Bambi’s rhythmical track is nice too. My favourite tracks. Review : http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/minimalism.html#anchor_88 * Trace V.A. : Post-Minimalism -2CD- (B,CHI,F,US,2006)**°° CD1 ****’ : Tr.6, Ryan Brown : “Bansky” 9 min Tr.1, Eric Schwartz : “Thunk..A Ghost Story” 9 min CD2,**°° Tr.8, Hervé Zénouda : “Mercredi 19 Janvier, 8h 30” 4 min 22-79 My favourite tracks from this compilation on the post-minimalist heritage. Ryan Brown is a great piece with guitars, fitting well with the previously listed Track, with a fine balance in sound between the instruments. Eric Schwartz music is more contemporary music, with contrasting sounds I know from the best Xenakis & Pedrecki, here as a wild approach, and with a sudden small tango theme somewhere too. A “classic” piece if you ask me. Last track sounds like a contemplation in nature. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/belgium.html#anchor_73 * Rachot Metamorphosis (CZ/Ö/TÜ,1999)***°' Tr.1, “Unterm Teppich” 2 min Tr.8, “Karusell” 5 min 7 -91 Drifting guitar and string chamber music rock group living in Czech/Austria. These are the “heaviest” tracks. Fits fine with Czech albums like Jablkon & Svenceny, and perhaps Rale,… Technically ambitious and interesting tracks !! Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/CZECH5.html#anchor_118 * Leo Metamorphosis : Dip (CZ/Ö/TÜ,2002)**** Tr.3, “Paserak” 6 min Tr.8, “Knecht” 4 min -101 A bit calmer album of chamber music acoustic rock. 2 more unique tracks. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/CZECH5.html#anchor_126 * Leo Metamorphosis : Luff (Ö/CZ/TÜ,2006)**** Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/CZECH5.html#anchor_127 * Home Table DVA : Kapitán Demo (CZ,2006-2007)***° Tr.1, “Három Kérom” 3 min Tr.3, “Pingu Hop” 4 min -108 Chamber like arrangements done with lots of humour and fun with sounds, words. “Pingu Hop” is perfect ! Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/CZECH5.html#anchor_130 * Home Table DVA : The Cabinet of Dr Caligari -the DVD- (CZ,2006)**** Tr.1, “Intro” 4 min Tr.2, “Alan” 2 min Tr.5, “Opera” 2 min Tr.7, “Theremin” 1 min 8 The music on its own is great, although sometimes it becomes a bit like a video- clip to the movie, making 2 levels of experience. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/CZECH5.html#anchor_130 * Home Table DVA : Kapitán Demo (CZ,2006-2007)***° Tr.27, “Receive a new message tone” 1 min Tr.28, “Uncle from Tyrol ringing” 1 min Tr.31, “Poetik Ringing” 3 min Chamber like arrangements done with lots of humour and sound fun. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/CZECH5.html#anchor_130 Outro : * Palace Of Light K.Leimer : The Useless Lesson (US,2007)**’ Tr.1, Ro Force closed your Eyes” 6 min Ambient music, but the first track in neo-classical style with swelling keyboards give a strange minimalist gothic meaning to the classical music idea.
