Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/reissue3.html#anchor_124 * Private Catherine Howe : Princelet Street (UK,2006)***° Tr.1, “Princelet Street” 4 min -21 First reappearance to the scene after some years of musical silence, ideas grew some years to result in this album. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/newsingers-15.html#anchor_645 * private Little Red & Lauter -demo- (F,2006)**°’ Tr.1, 4 min Nice hush track with fine acoustic guitar. Inspirations on the coastline. This is a beautiful melancholic track. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/newsingers-15.html#anchor_643 * Backwater Belinda Gillett : Someone Hates You (UK,2006)*°°’ Tr.1, “Bite Back” 4 min -74 It took many listens and still I cannot grab the whole album and know for sure what to think of it. I can only say that this is a strong opener. Review (soon) : http://singersong.homestead.com/newsingers-14.html#anchor_591 * Smells Like Christine Rosenvinge : Continental 62 (US,2006)**° Tr.3, “Window” 4 min -78 My favourite track on this album starts with a hushed lullaby voice, then continues with dual vocals and a more pushed strength. Also the arrangements are done well (piano, guitar, bass, drums) and with convincing variations. * Backwater Kate Bannatyne : - EP- (UK,2007)***' Tr.4, “Blue Light” 4 min -82 Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/newsingers-9.html#anchor_415 * Home Soetkin Collier : Nocturne (B,2007)***° Tr.6, “Vertrouw op mij” 4 min -82 Tr.11, “Heen en Weer” 6 min -88 (Tr.12, “goeienavond speelman” 2 min) -left out in show- Swedish and Dutch songs. These are my two favourite tracks. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/belgiumfolk.html#anchor_82 If time left : * Home Floes : Belovodia (B,2006)*** Somewhat naïve but nice folk, as if this is a musical gift with respect to an old lady (grandmother or so) facing old ideas in a new changing world. A track, also with nice guitar, and spoken word. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/newsingers-14.html#anchor_622 - progressive : * GOD Amon Düül II : Hijack (D,1974)**° Tr.9, “Archy the robot” 4 min 0 I think this is an underestimated AD II album, because it is more of a conceptual rock album, comparable more to albums like “Ziggy Stardust” from David Bowie, in a more SF version and while hijacking elements from similar rock operas,..not that it was with such a great result, it still is enjoyable. * Mimo Sound Patrik Skantze and the Free Souls Society : Fiction at first view (S,2006)***°’ (Tr.8, “Cravinf for knowledge” 6 min) Airplay left out but mentioned. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/newsingers-12.html#anchor_520 * WIS Michael James : Runaway World (US,1978,re.2006)****' Tr.2, “I remember (we could change the world)” 5 min Tr.5, “Runaway World” 5 min Drugged s/sw album with late ‘60s psychedelic style elements. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/reissue3.html#anchor_128 * Companion Marc Mundy (US,rec.1970,pub.1971,re.2006)***°° Tr.1, “The hidden meaning of your love” 4 min Tr.2, “Our love can never be” 4 min Tr.3, “How can I marry this language” 4 min Tr.6, “Don’t love me anymore” 4 min 16 Annoying / embarrassing album for its integer naïve simplicity but with incredible honest feelings dealing with integration and a lost love, making it even more sad and unique. The lyrics and music hardly fit perfect, but I think this makes it better describing the annoying situation, makes it almost traumatic, outsider-like, but also very recognisable. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/reissue3.html#anchor_113 * PLane Cem Karaca : Die Kanaken (TÜ/D,1984)***°’ Tr.1, “Mein Deutscher Freund” 5 min Tr.2, “Beim Kaffee” 3 min Tr.4, “Willkomen” 3 min 11 Tr.5, “Es kamen menschen an” 5 min (Tr.7, “Orient Express” 3 min) -> end of show If time left : (Tr.9, Ayse, Meral, Semra Cok Yorgunum” 3 min) Another fantastic album about difficulties in integration, but this time by a convincing rocksinger who was famous in Turkey before he was forced to stay in Germany. This release was done after Cem Karaca had to flee for his life from Turkey because of the political situation. Brilliant singer-songwriter album also for its musical ideas. Mostly sung in German. Luckily for me I understand German. Almost each track is essential. Strong song-rock album !!
