Radioshow “PVHF” on radio Centraal, Antwerp : 2007-04-14 : 800-1000 PM Part 1 : New Turkish releases & Middle eastern crossovers, part 1 Part 2 : New releases from the http://progressive.homestead.com section. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- New Turkish releases & Middle eastern crossovers, part 1 : - intro 3 min * Rounder No Blues : Ya Dunya -2cd edition-(NL,2007)**** CD1, Tr.1, “Black Cadillac” 4 min CD2, Tr.1, “Longa Shanaaz” 3 min Tr.2, “Rageen Rambling” 5 min Tr.9, “No Reggea” 3 min Tr.10, “Hard Killing Floor” 5 min 20 There is some singer-songwriter blues here, mixed with Arab arrangements. A splendid and recommended release with crossover and side-by-side combinations of styles. Contains the most pleasant Arab crossover that I know. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/MiddleEast2.html#anchor_119 * Destur Cem Karaca : Püsküllü Moruk (TÜ,1972)***°’ - side A : Tr.1, “overture” 3 min Tr.2, “Afrin Sevdasi/Passion of Gold” 3 min Tr.3, “The Fox” 2 min (cdr 1-3 : tr.3) 8 Rock songs from theatre piece, with Grup Kardaslar. 10” release only. Only the song sung by Cem’s mother is a less rewarding. Side A remains the most original side. Side B is with more acoustic guitar too, but with full band playing along. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/Turkey.html#anchor_113 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- New releases from the http://progressive.homestead.com section : - PART 1 : mid 60s : * Gear Fab The Palace Guards (US,1966-1969,pub.2007)***°’ Tr.1, “Sorry” 3 min Tr.2, “Better Things to do” 3 min Tr.10,“Mr.Greene” 3 min Tr.12,“Barbara” 4 min Tr.18,“Never be lonely” 4 min 17 -20 A very good teenage garage/psych album with a British influence and some very good emotional, often chick related songs. Many of the songs are memorable. As you see, I have many favourites. For me this one of the better garage groups / releases. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/sixties2.html#anchor_169 * 60sgaragebands.com The Chains : "The Beatles of El Paso" (US,1963-1969,re.2007)*°’ Tr.11, “Stop the World (I want to get off)” 6 min This is different, a much “cooler”, tougher affair of British/American mix of Garage, and therefore is less my own taste. My favourite track is the only longer track, with a few psychedelic moments on organ and guitar, “Stop this World (I want to get off)”. The label is run by dedicated garage freaks, so this release is well documented and complete. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/sixties2.html#anchor_172 - PART 2 : neo-sixties : * Cargo The Strange Flowers : The imaginary space travel of the naked monkeys (I,2007)**°’ Tr.6, “The One I love” 4 min Tr.8, “Purple Needles” 2 min 6 32 Group with 60s and early Pink Floyd influence. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/sixties.html#anchor_157 - PART 2 : late 60s : * Fin De Siècle Media Franco Micalizzi : "Adolescenza Perversa" (1974)***’ Tr.5, 5 min Tr.17, 2 min 7 -39 Easy listening, orchestrated music, suspense, erotic, rock, and a bit of funk. Tgere was more in Italy but Morricone and Goblin, but still some elements are recognisable as being typical Italian for those days. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/Italy.html#anchor_244 * Fin De Siècle Media Franco Micalizzi : "Hold-Up" (1974)*** Similar music but without the erotism, with lots of repetitions/minor variation of the main theme. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/Italy.html#anchor_244 * Fallout Jeff Simmons : Naked Angels (US,1969)*°° Tr.8, “Bohin’(Third Ride)” 4 min Tr.14,“End Theme” 2 min 6 -45 Varied soundtrack with fuzzy funk, blues,.. Previously released on Zappa’s label. Jeff Simmons also participated with Zappa/Mothers for a while. Not the most ambitious soundtrack, but it gives an impression of going from one bluesy bar to the next, with just now and then revealing a road movie tension. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/psych.html#anchor_173 * Gear Fab Turnquist Remedy : Iowa by the Sea (US,1970)**’ Early West Coast album, from a pre-‘America’ songwriter. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/psych.html#anchor_166 * Sunbeam Second Hand : Reality (UK,1968)***°’ Tr.2, “Rhubarb!” 4 min Tr.6, “The World will end yesterday” 4 min Tr.7, Denis James (Ode to D.J.)” 4 min Tr.9, “Reality” 9 min -21 -66 Early progressive/psychedelic/hardrock which evolved from 60s styles to something more weird, using a very loaded composition/production sound. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/psych.html#anchor_178 - new groups with hard rock/doom influences: * Rise Above Winters : Black Clouds In Twin Galaxies (UK,2007)**° Tr.1, “Fried” 4 min Tr.2, “Aftershown” 4 min 6 -74 Hardrock/doom driven rock. Somehow the songwritin/vocals are partly rooted in the 60s, mixed with alternative post-rock, and the hard rock style. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/psych.html#anchor_186 * Record Heaven Abramis Brama : Live! (S,2007)*°’ Tr.3, “Kejsarens Mya Kläder” 5 min -79 Shouting, heavy bluesy progressive doom rock. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/sweden3.html#anchor_173 * Recife Andaluza : Pedra Da Fusao (BRAS,2007)**’ Tr.6, 5 min -84 Concept expressed by monotone voice, electric guitars and acoustic percussion, which has Afro-Brazil origins. It helps knowing Portuguese. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/BRAZILREVIEW.html#anchor_56 * Magni Animi Viri Heroes Temporis : Magni Animi Viri (2006)**° Tr.18, “CS instrumental” 3 min -87 Italian symphonic metal/pop/rock opera, with orchestra and opera singer. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/Italy.html#anchor_249 * Rise Above Litmus : Planetfall (UK,2007)*° Tr.5, “Planetfall” 3 min -90 New spacerock/jam band with Hawkwind influence, and a few more freaky jam moments.
