Radioshow “PVHF” on radio Centraal, Antwerp : 2007-03-03 : 800-1000 PM New psych & reissues, from Soft Machine to Heldon and other reissues ----------------------------------------------------------------------- * Gear Fab V.A. : Psychedelic States : Arkansas in the 60s vol. 1 (US,1965-1970)*°°° Tr.28, Five by Five : “Apple Cider” 4 min For me the absolute winner track from this ‘60s garage/beatpsych compilation, a wild track about a girl living on apple cider. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/progressive2.html#anchor_122 * Gear Fab Unfolding : How to Blow Your Mind & Have a Freak-Out Party (US,1967)***° Tr.4, “Flora’s Holiday” 2 min -6 Freak-out party music, like the title says, in an almost visual concept. This is the sexy operasinger while others smoke pot and have fantasies. Other tracks are more into freakrock (side 1) or hippie mediations (side 2). Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/sixties2.html#anchor_168 * Elektrohash Saturnia : Muzak (PT,rec.2003-2005,pub.2006)***' Alternative psychedelic rock group with use of trance layers. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog21.html#anchor_232 * Blueprint Quiet Sun : Mainstream (UK,1975)***° Some members of Quiet Sun had also joined Matching Mole. The Canterbury influence is still noticeable. * Hux Matching Mole: on the radio (UK,rec.1972,pub.2006)***° After more hearings I don’t think the album is more important than the original albums, but still adds a fresh perspective on the group. Instead I will airplay Matching Mole’s masterpiece. What was noticeable and interesting is to hear how much keyboards were important for Matching Mole. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/progreview.html#anchor_39 * Sony Matching Mole : little red record (UK,1972)****° Tr.1, “Starting in the middle of” 3 min Tr.2, “The day we can drink our politics away” 9 min 12 Unique kind of jazz-rock/Canterbury style. Matching Mole was an off-shoot of Soft Machine lead by Robert Wyatt. Produced by Robert Fripp. More tracks hang together than just these two, so I could only play a portion. Essential. * Cuneiform Soft Machine : Middle Earth Masters (UK,1967,1968)***°’ Tr.4, “Hope For Happiness” 14 min -32 This track had some Indian inspiration in the first notes of singing, but in abluesy way, while the final track itself is heavy jazzrock. This live track gives an idea how they always improvised with this track. Most of the singing is overloaded in the recording by the other instruments, but still it gives you insight in the incredible and also here, pretty wild playing of the band, with an almost claustrophobically tension of an energetic overload. There has been a lot of work on the masters on this far too loud basement concert. Review on http://progressive.homestead.com/progreview.html#anchor_30 * Hux Soft Mountain (JAP/UK,rec.2003,pub.2007)*** Studio jam between Tatsuya Yoshida (Ruins), Hoppy Kamiyama, Hugh Hopper (Soft Machine) and Elton Dean (Soft Machine). Not essential. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/JAPANreviews.html#anchor_86 * World In Sound Wazoo (US,1970)****' Tr.5, “Concert” 2 min Tr.6, “Arnie Funny Far Fackor” 6 min (->fragment) Tr.7, “BH Man” 10 min Psych-out psychedelic studio experiment by a group which was originally invited to do a cover record. The group still adds recognisable soulrock elements along with it as a conscious compromising factor. I chose the two weirdest tracks to start with, followed by a heavy, odd soulrock. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog-5.html#anchor_185 * Delay 68 Wool (US,rec.1968,pub.1969,reiss.2006)***° Tr.9, 3 min fragment A fine cover group made this solo soulrock album with heavier (Hendrix & black soulrock influence) and quieter (Joplin influence) moments. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog-3.html#anchor_159 * Elektrohash My Sleeping Karma (D,2005)***° Tr.4, “Glow 11” 10 min ->fragment) -60 Fine new rock band with psychedelic and spacerock imprint. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog21.html#anchor_229 * Zeta Reticuli Spaceseed with Harvey Bainbridge : The Empire of Night (US,2006)**’ Hawkwind followers Spaceseed with one Hawkwind member. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog21.html#anchor_236 * Beta-Lactam Ring Green Milk From The Planet Orange : You Take me to the world (JAP,2006)***’ Tr.2, 1418->2130.. 8 Very calmly evolving free psychedelic rock jam improvisation. I took out the last, wilded bluesrockjam part, with a bit of spoken word improvisations before that. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog10.html#anchor_145 * Fünfundvierzig Marble Sheep : Raise the Dead -2006 March Europe- (JAP,2006)***° Tr.2, “Who should we trust” 7 min Great energy-absorbing heavy psych/bluesrock band, live. This track gives a good impression of their potential. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/JAPANreviews.html#anchor_66 * Cuneiform Rec. Richard Pinhas : Metatron (F,2006)**°’ CD1,tr.5, “Metatron/Shaddaï/Cabbataï” -> 3 min Trance guitar transposing-loops are used for 2CDs full of improvisations. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/France.html#anchor_67 * Captain Trip Heldon : Well and alive in France -Live in Nancy 1979 -2cd- (F,re.2006)***°° Tr.2, “Heldon UFO War Machine” 040->13 min (Tr.4, “Red Line Target” 14 min) Heldon live recording, in the time they were in their heaviest “rock” period. This means with sequenced electronic rhythms, and heavy bass, drums and electric guitar. Unfortunately I could only choose one of both favourite tracks. It was still hard to choose between them. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/France.html#anchor_68 * Void Sound Studio Mimi-Unagi : Gyu-nyu-no-bero-bero / Slimy Skin of Cow Milk (JAP,2006)****' Tr.1, “HMSGMTGM” 1 min Tr.2, “A Cicada” 3 min Tr.7, “Fish Slave” 3 min 7 Weirdhead vocalist and one-man band, with a certain Ruins avant-punk influence. Brilliant new talent.
