Radioshow “PVHF” on radio Centraal, Antwerp : 2007-03-31 : 230-400 PM New experimental, acid, psych-folk, neo-folk, acid-folk singer-songwriters (including some reissues). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- - experimental.. * Captain Trip Zweistein : Trip/Flip Out/Meditation -3cd- (1970,re.2007)**°°° Tr.1, (fragment) “A Simple Song” 4 min Original oddity because of its spontaneous exaggerations of kept simple ideas mused by adventurous creativity based upon pure sonic explorations with environmental recordings and additional sound improvisations. This fragment is the only song which appears vaguely into the creative void. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/Germany.html#anchor_64 * Bickering Bray John Miller -: A description of the movement of the sun : two ragas (US,2007)***' Tr.1, (fragment) 130->5 min Kept simple but effective raga-esque guitar improvisation with acoustic bowed guitar string drone, and some percussion with small effects. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/guitar9.html#anchor_236 * New Am.Folk Hero Mike Tamburo : Language of the birds and other fantasies -7cdr-(US,2007)***°? CD1, Tr1, 040->430 5 min Interesting experiments with guitar improvisation and interesting sonic drones and effects. A first fragment. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/experimental.html#anchor_430 * Captain Trip Mickey Guitar Project : Flowers (JAP,2007)***? Tr.1,2,13 (fragment) 3 min Streched & calm progressive ambient guitar excursion. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/JAPANreviews.html#anchor_97 - from psych-folk to weird folk… * Little Somebody Cloud Temple : Funeral Dirge ov thee crowe king- (US,2007)**°° Tr.1, (fragment) 4 min Another project from John Miller, in psych-folk style, somewhat close to side- projects from Stone Breath perhaps. Especially the first track is worth exploring and enjoying, a ballad with nice guitar, and slow “droning” percussion. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview19.html#anchor_623 * September Gurls Fit & Limo : Astralis (D,2007)****?? Tr.1, 4 min Not particularly a representative track of this new Fit & Limo release, because there’s much more alternation, but this track fits best with this particular show. It is an a bit dreamier track. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview19.html#anchor_619 * Ahstern In Gowan Ring : Exists and Entrances -collected volumes I-IV- (2CD) (US,2007)****° Unfortunately I forgot this CD at home. It is a compilation of a previously privately released series of cd’s which are now compiled into this double CD. I will airplay two essential tracks of the next album instead. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview19.html#anchor_588 * Clearspot In Gowan Ring : Time Is A Spiral (US,rec.2003,pub.2007)****° Tr.2, “On the strglin’ way” 5 min Tr.3, “Morning waking dream” 5 min The truest contemporary troubadour of today. Beautiful songs with deeply penetrating voice, mood and poetry. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview19.html#anchor_600 * private Simon Stevens : Avalon / Stepping Of The Train/ Hills of Albion -EP- (UK,2007)**** Tr.3, “Hills Of Albion” 12 min Contrast-rich expressive voice with psych-folk accompaniment. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview19.html#anchor_578 * private Almaden : "The Dream Continues in 1,000,000 Roads as the Journeyman Slumbers to be Awoken by the Berries of Air and Forest, a Dawn Pre-Imagined and so Owned in Footstep and Deed as Our Lovely Soujourner of Unabysmal Light Soujourns 4th into Willowy and Totally Purple Dawning, Day is Upon r Hero and the Golden Rd. of Infinitudinous Blessedhood,"(US,2007)**** Tr.4, “Prayers for singers” 5 min Odd psych-folk demo. This is my favourite song and track. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview19.html#anchor_571 * De Stijl Jakob Olausson : Moonlight Farm (S,2007)***° Tr.1, "What Will Tomorrow Bring",4 min Weird psych-folk. The first track has string arrangements like Algärnas Trädgard. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview18.html#anchor_542 * private The Pendulums : New World Nova -EP- (UK,2007)**** Tr.2, “Time Song” 4 min Happy psych-folk. This track has one of the most known lyrics : the numbers (up to 12). Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview17.html#anchor_469 * Winter Solstice Bermuda Triangle : the missing tapes (US,1977)**° Not as essential bonus CD with the real LP. Both are now reissued by the group themselves. No track was chosen for airplay, but the album was mentioned. Review : http://psychedelicfolk.homestead.com/reissue.html#anchor_78 - neofolk associations… * Venuscape Vequinox : Planetary Harmony (UK,2005)**°' Tr.1, “Venus Waxing” 3 min Tr.4, “Edward” 6 min Influences from Dead Can Dance and Current 93 can be noticed here, in a modest way. 2 more favourite tracks are chosen. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview19.html#anchor_613 * private Steven Tari : Alone (US,2007)*°’? Tr.9, “Puppet Show” 5 min Influences of war, neo-folk, wave-electronica can be noticed. This neo-folk track convinced me best. Review on http://progressive.homestead.com/prog9.html * Ahnstern Allerseelen : Hallstatt (Ö,2007)*** Tr.6, “Allerseelen” (fragment) -> 3 min Best so far release I’ve heard from the group, a rhythmical, poetry-based and dark moods concept around inspirations from Hallstatt town, a town that was unreachable for visitors. Visiting was a risk to die by drowning or falling rocks. The inhabitants had a habit to paint the skulls of their deceased, something which made the village famous. This is a rhythmical instrumental. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview14.html#anchor_271 * Percht Waldteufel : Rauhnacht (Ö,2007)***' Tr.4, “During the twelve nights” 4 min Waldteufel’s Music brings you to imaginary mountain ritual marches, which you can experience with the music. I showed two examples. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview14.html#anchor_291 * Beta-Lactam Waldteufel : Sanguis (Ö,2007)***' Tr.1, “Telesma” 2 min Tr.2, “Sanguis” -> 3 min Tr.3, “Traumpfad” -> 2 min Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview14.html#anchor_291 - singer-songwriter related… * De Stijl Michael Yonkers : Grimwood (US,1969)***°? Tr.1, “Damsel Fair and your angel” 2 min Tr.3, “Sandcastle” 2 min Odd loner acid folk s/sw album just recently reissued. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/reissue4.html#anchor_158 * demo Jesse Bryant : 6-track demo (UK,2007)****' Tr.3, “Swallow” 4 min Tr.4, “Hazrd that rocks the World” 4 min Unfortunately there was only time for 2 tracks (or I would have airplayed at least also track 1). An extremely talent, with vocally beautifully arranged songs. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/newsingers-19.html#anchor_770 * Sunbeam Meic Stevens : Sackloth & Ashes : The EPs. Volume 2 (WA,1970-1971)**°’ Tr.15, “Not to ask..” 2 min A short representative song of the second volume of this artist who was also called the Welsh Dylan, a title which is partly understandable. He also has his own unique potential, something which shows itself perhaps best on Outlander. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/reissue2.html#anchor_88 * Umbrellahead The Sheiling : Life in a box (WA,2007)***' Tr.3, “Place I need to be” 4 min Another Welsh talented group. They were inspired in a modest but honest way by people like Tim Buckley, Nick Drake, and here perhaps also John Martyn. review : http://singersong.homestead.com/newsingers-18.html#anchor_747 * Vinyl Japan Bob Theil : The Ghent Sessions -songs from the archives vol.2 (UK,1997-1998)****’ Tr.1, “Nice and easy does it” 6 min First time publication of this concert of Bob Theil, volume two of his archives. So far this is the Japan only edition. Some European editions will be made available soon. Bob Theil can be compared to Roy Harper or early Al Stewart with a deeper seriousnessness. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/reissue3.html#anchor_110 Outro : * Sunbeam Wizz Jones : When I leave Berlin (UK,1973)**°°? Tr.4, “She’s only waiting” 2 min Another rare reissue of this song based guitarist. Not sure if I will have the airplay time to play this completely.
