Radioshow “PVHF” on radio Centraal, Antwerp : 2007-03-17 : 800-1000 PM 1 ½ hours of Peruvian Psych Rock : 1971-2007. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- - PART 1 : ESSENTIAL EARLY PERUVIAN PSYCHROCK -1 hour-: Intro : 3 min * Background Laghonia : Etcetera (PER,1971)***°' Tr.1, “Someday” 4 min Tr.2, “Mary Ann” 6 min 10 This is where Peruvian psych starts to become interesting for me. Second track has the more typical for Peru hand percussion additionally to the more American styled ‘60s psych sound. These are my favourite tracks. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/PERUreview.html#anchor_24 * Mag We All Together : 2 / Follow If You Can (PER,1974)? cdr Tr. 19, “Carry on till Tomorrow” 5 min With this group they go even more to the Beatles related ‘60s melodic pop. This nice track is also orchestrated. One of the most accessible bands. Links on http://progressive.homestead.com/PERU_PROG.html * Repsychled Traffic Sound : Virgin (PER,rec.1969)****° Tr.4, “Jews Caboose” 5 min Tr.7, “Meshkalina” 6 min 11 -24 Doors-like track, and one 60’s freak-funky very psychedelic track. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/PERUreview.html#anchor_11 * Repsychled Traffic Sound (PER,1970)****° Tr.1, “Tibet’s Suzettes” 5 min Tr.6, “Chicama Way” 8 min 13 -37 Powerful hard late ‘60s psych. Second track with strings for me is sung like Bowie, and is very good too. All tracks are mostly very different, and not all tracks are equally good. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/PERUreview.html#anchor_25 * Repsychled Telegraph Avenue (PER,1971)***°’ Tr.8, “Telegraph Avenue” 4 min -50 This album was influenced by the San Francisco hippie scene, but was also played by some other musicians who weren’t there. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/PERUreview.html#anchor_26 * Repsychled Tarkus (PER/ARG,1972)****° Tr.2, “Martha Ya Esta” 6 min Tr.3, “Cambiemos Ya” 4 min 10 -60 Great hardrock driven album, the heaviest album from its times in Peru. A must for hzrd rock/doom rock fans. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/PERUreview.html#anchor_27 - PART 2 : NEW PSYCHROCK BANDS -1/2 hour-: * Psychdoomelic Reino Ermitano : Brujas del Mar (PER,2006)**° Tr.11, “Oceánia” 8 min -68 Doom hardrock with progressive touches. Some tracks have a bit odd vocals I must say, but the group has its interesting elements, although there is also a certain simplicity with the being based upon the “doom” bass effect. I like best the female vocals. I think this is my favourite track. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/PERUreview.html#anchor_32 * Nasoni La Ira De Dios : Hacia El Sol Rojo (PER,2005)***’ Tr.7, “Hacia el Sol Rojo” 5 min -73 Another often heavy and bluesy rock band and in a jam mode, with some acoustic and many more electric passages. Here, a song track, and also with additional acoustic percussion. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/PERUreview.html#anchor_31 Outro : * Mylodon Flor De Loto (PER,2005)**** Tr.1, “La Llegada” 8 min -90 Perhaps the best new Peruvian progressive rock band. They also use a bit of panflute in their arrangements.
