"Psyche van Het Folk", Radio Centraal, Antwerpen Playlist 2005-03-16 : new psych releases & reissues ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -60’s & NEO-60’s * Oggetti Volanti V.A.: The Vegetable Man Project 3 (var.2004)**° Tr.9, In The Labyrinth (S):“Vegetable Man” 5 min Tr.17,Baba Zula (TÜ):“Vegetable Man” 5 min Tr.10,New Planet Trampoline (US):“Vegetable Man” 4 min 14 A new Syd Barret’s “Vegetable Man” tribute CD. In The Labyrinth received reviews before on http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/WORLD.html First two are the two most exotic tracks. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog7.html * Pacemaker/Lion Prod. The Plastic Cloud (CAN,1969)***°° Tr.1, “Epistle to Paradise” 4 min Tr.4, “You don’t care” 11 min 15 -30 Reissue of this late 60’s psych collector’s item, often with beautiful Jefferson Airplane-like vocals, like in first track, and with some over the top layer of fuzz psych, like in second chosen track, with great drumming, driving bass, and harmony vocals. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/progressive.html * UT Rec. The Loons : Paraphernalia (US,2005)*°° Tr.10, “Another Life” 11 min -41 This is hard, a bit overloaded, neo-60’s psych rock, with one Ugly Things magazine member. This track is my favourite of the CD. It’s the most freaked out track of the album. This track has Stephen Whiting (The Misunderstood) on backing vocals. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/progressive.html -70’s & NEO-70’s : * Wolfgang Rec. Jeavestone : Crazy Madness EP (FIN,2005)*° Tr.1, “Crazy Madness” 3 min -44 Song track with post-70’s rock feel. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/FINLANDGROUPS2.html * Lion Prod. Odyssey : Setting Forth (US,1969)** Tr.4, “You’re not there” 4 min -48 Psych reissue on the edge of hard rock. This track has nice rhythm, organ. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog.html * Progress Rec. Liquid Scarlet (S,2004)***°’ Tr.1, “Greyroom” 6 min Tr.4, “Molok” 5 min Tr.7, “The red stairs” 6 min (fragment) 17 -65 Excellent song orientated prog (track 1 & 2) & mostly instrumental prog, with on the last two chosen tracks and also elsewhere some King Crimson, Anekdoten and Anglagard reminisence. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/sweden.html * Silence Rec. Träd Gräs och Stenar : Ajn Scvajn Draj (S,2002)**°° Tr.10, “Ringring” 13 min Tr.11, “Inget2/Nothing2” 2 min 15 -80 This is the band reunion with a comparable sound compared to the old group. On best equipment the evolutions of the tracks sounds slowly evolving with some hypnotism. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/sweden.html * Silence Rec. Hidria Spacefolk : Symbiosis (FIN,2001)***° Tr.2,3 “Kaneh Bosm” 7 min Tr.5, “Nasha Universo” 6 min 12 -94 Very good neo-psych with spacepsych & acoustic influence (Ozric Tentacles / Tangled Edge), and some sequenced electronic rhythms and electronic effects. This first track also has some sitar and didgeridoo. Second track is psychedelica mixed with an orginal use of a bossa nocva or whatever rhythm, Still with psych effect.Great ideas and with rhythmic skills ! Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/FINLANDGROUPS2.html * Silence Rec. Hidria Spacefolk : Balansia (FIN,2004)***’ Here the group sound even more a neo-spacepsych band than before (Ozrics) with some trance-like live effect on some tracks. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/FINLANDGROUPS2.html * irIdea Rec. Stereokimono : Ki –spycophonic oblique rock-(I,2000)*° Tr.6, “Istanbul Di Giorno” 6 min -100 Somewhat melodic instrumental prog. This is my favourite track. It uses a semi- Turkish melody and plays it in a somewhat space-psych mode. Second part is different and arranged with different style mix influences. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog6.html * Imaginifica Stereokimono : Prismosfera (I,2002)** “La Soffita Volonta” is the favourite track of another album of Stereokimono. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog6.html * Backwater Rec. The Future Kings of England EP (UK,2003)**** The EP has 3 tracks of the full album. So I airplay only from the full album. * Backwater Rec. The Future Kings of England (UK,2004)***° Tr.1, “intro” 2 min Tr.2, “10:66” 8 min Tr.6, “Lilly Lockwood” 9 min 20 -120 Very good new psych rock band! I like very much “10:66”. “Lilly Lockwood” starts with some mellotron layer on top of the psychrock sound of the band. Then it becomes more spacey, first in a freaky way, and then in a calm, reflective way. Review of both albums : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog10.html#anchor_111 (PS. Future Kings Of England will contribute to the next Syd Barrett’s vegetable Man tribute series). * Private/demo The Pocket Gods : The Ninth Configuration EP(UK,2005)***° “The Ninth Configuration” 19 min -140 An excellent psych(rock) track from this post-rock band. Partly this goes stylistically a bit into the direction of Mark Christopher Lee’s solo release. Mark also participates whenever he can with the Belgium band acidfolk psych band Zaam. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog10.html#anchor_115 * demo version Mark Christopher Lee : Away with the Fairies (UK,2004)**°° Tr.4, “Danube” 12 min ->9 min -150 A track with strummed guitar and (Floydian) piano, dreamy vocals, handpercussion. The Pocket Gods track followed by track 4 and 2 from this CD would make already a perfect CD to me.
