Playlist Radioprogram "Psychevanhetfolk", Radio Centraal, Antwerpen 2002-11-27 Progressive Music : New releases and demos. Phant.Airship Rec. Greg Segal : In search of the fantastic (US,2001)*** Tr.5, "Congruence asserts its presence" 2 min Tr.8, "Snallygaster" 4 min Tr.12, "Was it childhood" 3 min Tr.19, "Wednesday 10 PM" 12 min (1min->fragment) 15 An experimental progressive world enfolds with mostly electric guitars, textures. In between ambient, experimental music and progressive semi- acoustic/electric soundscapes. Greg is also part of the somewhat experimental improvisation duo Jugalband. Phant.Airship Rec. Greg Segal : Always look at the dark side of life (1984-1993)** Tr.1, "As the sky turns to Fire" 3 min Tr.2, "Cold Sky" 6 min 10 First track in 710's prog style, second could derive from 90's better rock scene as well. Review with links : http://singersong.homestead.com/REV.html Private Soniq Theatre : A Second Action (2002)* Tr.8, "Nocturno" 2 min Tr.3, "Marakanda" 5 min Tr.4, "Centaurus" 6 min 13 20 Surely improved with first release. Talent begins to show better. But being still a one man band I would prefer to see more challenges of different approaches in ideas, like you have in a more-member-band. Working alone often leads to more one-line-ness and too melodic approach. The evolvement the "group" is taking is promising, surely on "centaurus" which is splendid. Tempano : The Agony & the Ecstasy(VEN,2002)*** Tr.15, "Conspiration" (last minute) 1 min Tr.1, "Twisted Mind" 6 min 7 A bit more difficult to get a grip upon : there's so much music, more bombastic layers and melodic ideas. Here again is a very good production at various tracks. There are also some prog pop influences with the same splendid production at some other tracks. Review at http://progressive.homestead.com/VENREVIEW.html Musea Rec. Pigs and Pyramids : all star lineup performs Pink Floyd (VAR,2002)*° The style is not very progressive, rather classic / hard rock. The vocals are a weak point. The playing is ok, like from good studio musicians. Lots of famous contributions. Airplay will be in the singer-songwriting radioprogram only. Review with links at http://progressive.homestead.com/progressive.html Musea Rec. Tresspass : In Haze of Time (IS,2001)**° Tr.2, "In Haze of Time" 7 min Tr.5, "Orpheus Suite" 6 min Tr.6, "Troya" 6 min 20 Mixed quality in achievement, from melodic neo-prog towards very good 70's progressive (or symphonic), with at the first chosen track some folk touch trough the use of flute. Most of all the release is interesting for its original keyboards. Review with links : http://progressive.homestead.com/progressive.html Cuneiform Rec. Sotos : Platypus (F,2002)*** ? Tr.1, "Malstrom part 1", 6 min Tr.2, "Malstrom part 2", 5 min Tr.3, "Malstrom part 3", 5 min 15 Heavy RIO / chamber Music Rock, with lots of rhythm changes, at first and then as many quieter passages. Crafted. Info : www.sotos.fr.st Review will be added later at http://progressive.homestead.com/RIO2.html Burlesco Hasse Bruniusson's Flying Food Circus (S,2002)*** Tr.3, "Erfarenheit von Panopticon" 7 min Tr.4, "Pot on the head & oranges under the arms" 5 min Tr.5, "Collect relapses" 7 min Tr.7, "The man without qualities" 9 min 30 Could also be classified under RIO but is in fact much more. Works a bit like a theatrical event, so the title is chosen well. With splendid electric guitar from Roine Stolt (Flower Kings) in chosen tracks. Review with links at http://progressive.homestead.com/progressive.html Decca Caravan (UK,1968)***** Tr.1, "Place of my own" 5 min Tr.2, "Ride" 4 min Tr.6, "Magic Man" 5 min Tr.17, "Hello Hello" 4 min 20 Wonderful Canterbury reissue. Closest to early Soft Machine and related to that band. Decca Caravan : If I could do it all over again I do it all over you (UK,1970)***°° Tr.2, "And I wish I were stoned / Don't worry" 9 min Tr.7, "Can't be long now / Francoise / For Richard / Warlock" 15 min Tr.11,"Clipping the 8th(Hello,hello) 4 min 30 Second release.
