Playlist “Psyche van het folk” Radio Centraal, Antwerpen : 2005-09-12 New psych related releases (reissues and new releases), often guitar dominated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Part 1 : 60’s and neo-60’s : * Gear Fab V.A. : Psychedelic States : Ohio in the 60's vol. 2 (US,1964-1969)*°° Tr.1, The Bare Facts : “To Think” 3 min Tr.11, The Last Times : “I need You” 3 min Tr.12, Spontanuous Combustion : “Freaky Girl” 3 min Tr.27, The Endless : “Prevailing Darkness” 3 min 12 Encyclopaedic document prevailing mostly garagepsych from Ohio, with some very fine discoveries and many more just ok tracks. These are some of my favourites. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/progressive2.html#anchor_84 * demo Ambassadors of Plush : EP (UK,2004)**° Tr.2, “Tomorrow never comes” 5 min Tr.3, “Tangled in Booze” 4 min Tr.4, “Darkside” 3 min 12 -24 Group with some folk flavoured Syd Barrett influence. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/progressive.html#anchor_76 * Record Heaven Carpet Knights (NO,2005)° A bit too much mainstream and forwards rock elements in the sound of this so called new progressive band. There’s a too loaded and even ugly Marillion-like influence. Uninteresting mix and execution unless various good elements. Info : http://www.thecarpetknights.nu/ * Camera Obscura Oyvind Holm : The Vanishing Act (NO,2005)**°° Tr.1, “Salt-mutated breeze” 4 min Tr.2, “Sunday Church Bells Chime” 4 min 8 -32 Poprock with strong playing with a fashionable post-60’s pop feeling. These are the strongest tracks. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/progressive2.html#anchor_80 * Camera Obscura Dipsomaniacs : Stethoscopic Notion (NO,2001)*** Tr.1, “Don’t Mourn” 1 min Tr.2, “Turn Summersaults” 4 min Tr.5, “Of Reaching Out” 5 min Tr.10,“Fair-Weather Friend” 4 min 14 -46 Good stylistic neo-60’s pop-rock with fine arrangements. “Fair-Weather Friend” reminds of the Byrds. Review and links : http://progressive.homestead.com/progressive2.html#anchor_88 * Camera Obscura Dipsomaniacs : Praying Winter (N,2003)**° Tr.9, “Someday Soon” 4 min -50 More singer-songwriter styled release with feelings of regret,... Review and links : http://progressive.homestead.com/progressive2.html#anchor_88 Part 2 : 70’s and post-70’s psychedelia : * Gear Fab Rec. Shag (US,1969)**°° Tr.1, “Gypsies in the Forest” 4 min Tr.6, “Lavendar Tab, ooh dilly dilly” 8 min -62 “Gypsies in the Forest” is a splendid track in early Embryo/Ruphus Zuphall style. Rest of album is fine enough bluesrock. Second favourite is included in radioshow too. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog.html#anchor_77 * Nasoni Rec. Davolinas : Edge of a new day (DK,2004,re.2005)*°° Rather simply inspired hard rock with female vocals. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog15.html#anchor_147 * Discos Necesarios Mater Dronic : Mundo Espectro (SP,2005)***° Tr.8, “Sanctus Mantra” 10 min -72 New, rather calmly developing heavy and quieter post-psych-rock with really great electric guitar improvisations. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/spain.html#anchor_24 * Nasoni Rec. La Ira De Dios : Hacia El Sol Rojo (PER,2005)*** Tr.7, «Hacia El Sol Rojo» 5 min -77 New psych from Peru. This track is simple and heavy instrumental psychedelic blues. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog15.html#anchor_168 * Strange Attractors The Vocokesh : Through The Smoke (US,2005)*** Tr.4, “Through the smoke” 5 min (fragment) Tr.5, “New Cropcircle boogie” 7 min 13 -90 This is a track which starts like ambient psych, then evolves to melancholic psychedelia and so on. I chose only a fragment of this track. Second chosen track is a slow rather simply structured jam with a Blue Cheer influence. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog15.html#anchor_147 * Strange Attractors Kinski : Be Gentle with the warm turtle (US,2001;reiss.2005)**° Minimal swelling spacejam, psychedelica created in a post-indierock sphere. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog15.html#anchor_161 * Strange Attractors Kinski : Space Lounge for Frenchie (US,1999 ; reiss.2005)*° Tr.11, “She always made us work like dogs” 10 min -100 A track which gives an idea from the evolution from the first version of the group and their style to the next version. This is calm and simple psych improvisation. I described the group as creative in psychedelic territory for a post-indierock public. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog15.html#anchor_161 * Nasoni Rec. Zone Six : Live Wired 2004 (D,2005)**** Tr.5, “Beach Comber” 23 min -123 Another slowly swelling up improvised psychedelia, with here and there some spacerock effects. This track evolves to some terrific over-the-top freaky speeded up jam. Recommendfed release to psych fans. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog15.html#anchor_158 Outro : * Carbon 7 Pierre Vervloesem : Rude (B,2005)***° Tr.9, “Emil Zola’s Jacuzzi” 3 min Tr.10,“Canadair” 5 min Tr.2, “Titanic again” 5 min 13 -136 Very good heavy chamber-music rock / R.I.O. styled music, lead by electric guitar. The music has in some sense something of psychedelia. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/belgium2.html#anchor_90 * Boheme Rec. Trajectories (RU,2001)**°° Tr.1, “Trajectory 1” 4 min -140 This track is RIO with classical impact thanks to violin lead. This track fits best with this particular radioshow. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/RUSSIA.html#anchor_159 * Starless Rec. Necrost : Concept of Noise (RU,1999)***° Tr.1, “Divine” 5 min Tr.2, “Revelation 2.0” 2 min (fragment) Tr.4, «‘04» 1 min Tr.5, «Beyond the noise » 5 min 13 (end) If time left : Tr.9, “M.A.C.” 5 min Very well composed black metal with at least some sympho-rock or progressive metal edge influence. Last track is with pigscream like growling vocals in black metal style and with great electric guitar solo. Remarks : http://progressive.homestead.com/RUSSIA.html#anchor_164 * Starless Rec. Azazello : Seventh Heaven (RU,2004)** Music with symphonic rock influence and with a metal interest and execution. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Other playlists : http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/2005.html General index page : www.radiocentraal.be/psychevanhetfolk More detailed index page : http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/index.html Receive weekly this playlist before the radioshow happens and with additional linked audio, with updates of new reviews and with additional comments : Subscribe : psychevanhetfolk-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
