Playlist "Psyche van het Folk", Radio Centraal, Antwerp. NEW PSYCH-FOLK, with live performance of Sharron Kraus. * SHARRON KRAUS LIVE in studio (first part in my show, second part in the singer-songwriter show): 20-30 min -2 groups that played with Sharron Kraus in UK : 1* Fence Rec. Pinkie Maclure & John Wills : A small piece of Afterwards (UK,rec.2004)**°° Tr.2, "Slowly, slowly, the water flows" 6 min Tr.3, "The Long Way Round" 8 min Tr.4, "How the Canary Cries" 6 min -50 Art-Indie-Psychedelic-folk group with very good and pleasant release. Review : http://psychedelicfolk.homestead.com/acidfolkreview6.html 2* Deerpark Music Deerpark : "It made her look spidery" EP (UK,2003)**° Tr.2, "Annabelle's Mother" 3 min Tr.3, "Wolf Song" 3 min -56 Acoustic chamber music art-rock group from Leeds. Good 6-track EP. Only a shame the 5th track group's performance goes out of tune. Review : http://psychedelicfolk.homestead.com/acidfolkreview6.html * Bent Pussycat Rec. Kathy Fleischmann : Unresolved (US,2003)*°° Tr.3, "5 Clock Shadow" 4 min Tr.5, "Dreaming European" 5 min Tr.9, "Bluer than Chicago" 3 min Tr.13, "Closure" 3 min -15 -71 Review on http://singersong.homestead.com/newsingers-3.html * Fallen Angel Sarah-Jane Morris (with Marc Ribot) : August (UK,2000)**° Tr.3, "Into my arms" 5 min -76 Good arrangements by Marc Ribot. Sarah-Jane has a very "black" voice. It still is slightly "entertaining emotional ability" voice rather than pure intuitive singing. But her voice has abilities that can still improve if she continues to make more serious efforts towards real music like here. She still is more singer than a musical artist, so I'm not sure she will ever (be able to) get to this completely. This is my favourite track. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/newsingers-3.html * announcement: there has been a reissue of outtakes from Patti Waters. I didn't buy it, but I made a webpage for her before : http://singersong.homestead.com/Patty_Waters.html * Drag City Joanna Newsom: The Milk Eyed Mender (US,2004)**°°° Tr.1, "Bridges and Balloons" 4 min Tr.4, "Sadie" 7 min -11 -87 Very good, very individual release of unique voice, accompanied by harp and other instruments. Recommended. Review : http://psychedelicfolk.homestead.com/acidfolkreview6.html * Drag City Faun Fables: Early Song (rec.1999, re.2004)**°°° Tr.1, "Muse" 4 min Tr.4, "Apple Trees" 5 min Tr.6, "Sometimes I pray" 6 min Tr.10,"Ode to rejection" 5 min 20 -107 Very good acid-folk-rock / acid gospel-blues singer-songwriter release, with widely ranged expressive female voice. This first collection is mostly a collection of songs by singer, Dawn McCarthy. I really like the text and song of the lament "Ode to rejection". Recommended. Review : http://psychedelicfolk.homestead.com/acidfolkreview6.html * Drag City Faun Fables: Mother Twilight (US,rec.2000,pub.2004)**** Tr.2, "Sleepwalker" 4 min Tr.3, "Shadowsound" 6 min Tr.4, "Hela" 5 min Tr.8, "Mother Twilight" 8 min Tr.13,"Catch Me" 4 min 27 -134 This is the second release of Faun Fables, which is a much more a group occurrence this time. Also this release comes very recommended. The sound of the group is even more psych-folk related as before. I could easily have chosen many more tracks. The third release of Faun Fables will be air-played another time, in the next psych-folk related radioshow. Review : http://psychedelicfolk.homestead.com/acidfolkreview6.html * Suilven Rec. Daniel Patrick Quinn : Severed from the land (UK,2004)***° Tr.1, "A Wide Wooded valley" 4 min Tr.3, "Nine Standards Rigg" 5 min -144 (shortened) First track reminds a lot of ... , with a beautiful voice with minimalist music, in some way still folk flavoured. With inspiration from Scottish nature and other shores and highland landscapes in UK. Small review on : http://singersong.homestead.com/newsingers-3.html * Redgummy Rec. The Love X Nowhere : EP (US,2004)**° Tr.5, "#45" 6 min -150 If enough time : Tr.3, "Freedom" 5 min Tr.4, "Our Song" 5 min (fragment) A post-rock/pop release with good group-sound and some late Pink Floyd reminiscences but seen from a new independent rock sound concept. This post- softrock track has some violin and cello additions to the group sound. This makes the arrangements even more complete and nice. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog5.html Anouncement (without airplay this week) : * Laser's Edge White Willow: Storm Season (N,2004)**** This is another consistent release of this very good group, and another step towards a new change in style. This time it's more progressive art-rock with here and there a metal-prog influence. Someway it became more technically stylistic.
