Playlist “Psyche van het folk” Radio Centraal, Antwerpen (2005-06-08) : Folktronica (related music) and subtle new electronica, part 1. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ * Static Caravan Tunng : Mother’s daughter and other songs (US,2005)**** Tr.1, “Mother’s Daughter” 4 min Tr.2, “People Folk” 5 min Tr.5, “Tale from black” 6 min 15 Splendid s/sw album with subtle acoustic and folktronic arrangements. “People Folk” is a more catchy rhythmic tune. As bonus cd is added a tribute to Weltraumforscher cd, with people from mostly electronic and new German pop scene. 2 Forscher In der Nacht is closest to the folk with electronica style of this radioshow. Imagine a kind of electrowave- acidfolk version of Limo, check this out. The cd starts with rhythmic bubble singing. Fantastic compilation. Difficult to leave almost anything out. I will airplay more from Asa-Chang in a later show. The compilation is like the presentation of a new genre ! Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog13.html#anchor_126 * Leaf Records Colleen : The Golden Morning Breaks (F/UK,2005)**** Tr.2, “Floating in the clearest Night” 3 min Tr.6, “I’ll read you a story” 7 min 10 Tr.9, “The Golden Morning Breaks” 6 min 16 (shortened) Tr.10, “Everything lay still” (fragment) 7 min 23 Moody arranged meditative chamber acoustic instrumental album with a somewhow “feminine” character. Second chosen track is build up by beautifully and brilliantly by glockenspiel-like musical box, partly with some feedback sounds of it. I will airplay her first album in a later radioshow. It was also difficult for me to choose fewer tracks for airplay. Review : http://psychedelicfolk.homestead.com/psychfolkpopreview3.html#anchor_146 * Amorfon V.A.: Music For Baby! (JAP,RU,SERB,I,D,SP,NL,2004)**°° Tr.6, Alejandra & Aron : “Lucky Cat” 4 min Tr.7, Ryoichi Kurokawa : “Memoria” 4 min ! Tr.12, Andrés F.Krause : “First daylight / deep Sunset” 4 min 12 (shortened) Comparable project to “music for children” with more contrasting tracks (also in sound and somewhat in style). These first two tracks, slightly ambient and with tiny clicks compositions for me, I think are highly successful tracks suitable for both babies & adults. Last track is more ambient. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog13.html#anchor_129 * Pawtracks Jane : Berserker (US,2005)*° -left out but mentioned : (suggestion was : Tr.3, “Slipping Away” 12 min (fragment only) 7 min)- One Animal Collective member makes with friend this natural rhythm soundscape techno, with two slightly good ideas from 2003 and two lesser successful and more recent ideas. I still recognise to much the method of how it is made in it to convince me enough really. The rhythm itself however on “Slipping Away” is really fine with me. If anyone wants the interview I did with Noah, please mail me. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog13.html#anchor_124 * Amorfon Fitz Ellarald : The very Air seems replete with humming and buzzing melodies (RU,2003)***° Tr.1, “Hjarta” 5 min Tr.2, “Mole” 4 min 9 Very good, subtle, new electronica from Russia. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog13.html#anchor_132 * Amorfon Yoshio Machida : Infite Flowers (JAP,2003)***° Tr.3, “Namaqua I,II,III,IV” 4 min Tr.4, “A small flower” 3 min Tr.5, “Fragrance” 6 min 13 Really nice steeldrum combined with electronica based upon the processed steeldrum play. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog13.html#anchor_136 * Kitchen Motors Kippi Kaninus : Huggun (ICE,2002)**** Tr.1, “Tea Time Tones” 6 min Tr.3, “Münnangur” 6 min 12 Very nice subtle, slightly visual multilayered new electronica and programming mixed with analogue instruments and acoustic samples. I will airplay their new release in another radioshow in future. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog13.html#anchor_140 Outro : * 9PM Rec. Aavikko : Back from the Futer (FIN,2005)****° Tr.4, “Una Lira Soluzione” 4 min Tr.6, “Wot Wot Neozulu” 4 min Tr.7, “Futer City” 4 min 12 Post-Kraftwerk playful futuristic electronica-pop with some early dance genres related humour. Both Aavikko & Desert Planet on this label are similar in energy and are both recommended. “Wot Wot Neozulu” is completely crazy and very rhythmic with jazzy sax too. “Futer City” is happy dance music, but can be enjoyed from any level of experience. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/FINLAND_GROUPS.html * 9PM Rec. Desert Planet : Mario built my hot rot (FIN,2005)***°° Tr.3, “Granny Hunt” 4 min Tr.5, “Red Dwarf” 4 min Tr.8, “Salsa Kong” 4 min 12 Pac-man game inspired fun new futuristic electropop music.
