Playlist : "Psyche van het Folk", Radio Centraal, Antwerpen, Belgium Early beat music, crossovers and early progressive music and beyond, in former Yugoslavia. Guests : Marthy Coumans, Vanja Rancic & Zanko Andric, three collectors. Yugoslavia had Silhouettes, Black Pearls, Golden Boyz, Crveni Koralji, Elipse & Grupa 220 as most known 60's bands. 60's starting with early examples : * Mikan Obradovic and his orchestra : "Yellow Submarine" (The Beatles) in Yugoslavian folk version - demo * Djordje Marjanovic : Ringe Ringe Raja (1962) early 60's style. * Krsta Popovic (Bulgarian pressing) - Proletni Cvet Early 60's style with brass. * Esma Redzepova : Romano Oro & Cigancica Mala Very known popular gypsy (female) singer. Gypsy style. Second track has middle eastern organ. * 4M : Bebel : very know 60's pop track, with brass. About being jealous on Belmondo. * Delfini : Bebel More original version in 60's punk style. Info : http://home.wanadoo.nl/v.rancic/delfini.htm Cover of other single : http://www.bosnia.ba/muzika/Images_ex_YU/Delfini01.gif * Atomi : "Jurij Gagarin" First Yugoslavian (Croatian) beat group (1961) with spacey twist, with Russian folk melody adaptation. For links see next single. * Bijele Strijele (= "White Arrows") : Maja Early beat track - demo. Webpage : http://home.wanadoo.nl/v.rancic/bijelestrijele.htm & http://www.lobel.de/PopRock/Bijele_strijele.html * Iskre : Telstar One of Vanja's favourite 60's bands. Spacey effects. Nice cover from this known song. With original use of handbells. With organ. Demo version. Iskre webpage : http://home.wanadoo.nl/v.rancic/iskre.htm * Dubrovacki Trubaduri : (Jedan Dan) & Autostop (?) & Lindjo. From Dubrovnik. They participated with the Eurovision songfestival, 1968. This was Marthy's choice. Other participators found this track very banal. I decided to play only a few seconds of it. One track, about hitch-hiking, to be found on their "Jedan Dan" LP, is musically more interesting. "Lindjo" is B-side from single, "Lero" (?). Folkdance melody in crossover style. One of Marhty's favourite crossover tracks. Still with very basic rhythm section (in 3/4), and close to the folk melody. LP cover : http://www.bosnia.ba/muzika/Images_ex_YU/DTrub01.gif Info : http://www.bide-et-musique.com/song/2284.html * Smeli : Folk Another folk adaptation, but this time in psych beat style. Demo. * Zlatni Decaci : Jovano Jovanke Nice freakbeat / psych beat track with adaptation of a folk melody. Very nice organ. Demo. Two other singles : http://www.bosnia.ba/muzika/Images_ex_YU/Zlatni_Decaci02.gif & http://www.bosnia.ba/muzika/Images_ex_YU/Zlatni_Decaci01.gif * Zlatni Akordi : Marice Divojko From Dalmatia. Another adaptation of a folk melody. A bit mad circus like fast twist ? Possibly a hotelband, with cover of a popular gypsy track. Other single : http://www.bosnia.ba/muzika/Images_ex_YU/Montenegro01.gif * Tomi Sovilj : Za Jedan Casak Radosti Old urban melody. * Lutalice : Reci Da Me Volis Pretty Things cover, in 60's garage/punk style. * Crni Biseri : Wild Thing very wild 60's garage / punk mostly instrumental version with screams, howls, of this known Troggs cover (most known from Stooges) Other singles at http://www.bosnia.ba/muzika/exYUsingles/c.php3 Info Crni Biseri : http://home.wanadoo.nl/v.rancic/crnibiseri.htm * Zlatni Akordi : My Generation The Who cover. Singer did also lots of folk music later on. * Zeteoci : Noc ("night") Croatic catholic monks. Crossover beat with religious content. Exaggerate naïve religious singing, but nice for its heart beat, sparse spiritual spacey effects. From Marthy's collection. End 60's, early 70's : * Indexi : Boj Na Misaru Also typical for Yugoslavia is folkpoetry with sparse accompaniment. Indexi (Sarajevo) made an original (60's) psych version of such folkpoetry on this single. With various exotic instruments, but also psych organ, wawa guitars,... Indexi is one of the most sought after groups by Japanese. With nice heavy improvisation too (electric guitars, drums). (* Akvareli : Pustinja End 60's ? Garage psych. left out because of shortage in time (: MD 31,32)) * S Vremena Na Vreme : Tema za Sargiju Psych track with use of Turkish saz, combined with electric guitar and more hand percussion.
