Playlist "Psyche Van Het Folk", Radio Centraal, Antwerpen 2003 May 14th Belgian progressive / symphonic rock artists : Dragon, Wallpaper Poets, Mindgames, (& bonus : Frank Van Bogaert) with interviews : Bart Schram (Mindgames) & Gerd Willekens (Wallpaper Poets) Intro : * September Gurls Rec. Subarachnoid Space : A new and exact map (US,1999)***? Tr.1, "Prism" 5 min Clearly King Crimson influences in this track. Info : www.subarachnoid.com Info : subarachnoid@subarnachoid.com and info : septembergurls@compuserve.com * Musea Rec. Dragon (B,197?)***°? Tr.1, "Introduction (insects)" 5 min Beautiful track with nice keyboards. Label : http://www.artist-shop.com/musea/ * Private Wallpaper Poets (B,1998)**** Tr.1, "Animal in the machine" 7 min Tr.2, "Try to scare me" 5 min Tr.3, "Drill" 10 min Incredibly good, strongly structured progressive symphonic rock with female singer. One of the best if not only Flemish example in this genre. Gerd acclaims it only has a demo quality, but this it still is very fine. A chosen track by Gerd Willekens to show his (new) influences : * Sony Music Joe Jackson : Heaven and Hell (UK,1997)? Tr.4, "Tuzla" Has a "modern" symphonic arrangement, in the same way the new Wallpaper Poets group is heading to. Another chosen track by Gerd Willekens : * Real World Peter Gabriel : Up (UK,2002)? Tr.9, "Signal to Noise" 5 ? min It's clear Peter Gabriel continued to explore his music. The studio drummer Manu Gatche is incredible. The contributions of real world musicians is perfect. Here we hear Nusrat Fateh Alli Khan on one of his last contributions, and I think some Burundi drummers. * Musea Rec. Mindgames : International Daylight (B,2002)*** Tr.4, "Beggars Breakfast" 3 min Prerecorded interview with Bart Schram, Mindgames : 11 min * Musea Rec. Mindgames : International Daylight (B,2002)*** Tr.7, "Selling the moon" : 18 min Symphonic rock with a certain amount of attention to melodic part. * Foxtrot Rec. Flower Kings : Retropolis (Sw,1996)*** Tr.2, "Retropolis" 12 min One of the strongest influences from Mindgames : melodic symphonic rock with Genesis touch. This is the strongest track I know from them. Very well produced, with filmic parts, very dynamic. Info : http://www.flower-power.org.uk/ E-mail : flowerkings@foxtrot.se * private Wallpaper Poets : The Other Side of Maybe (B,2003)** Tr.7,8,9,11,12 : The other site of maybe suite 30 min One part has been left out due to time limitations. This has a more modern sound. On good equipment the suite sounds still very good. More modern, less progressive. With more studio individuality. * private Wallpaper Poets : The Other Side of Maybe (B,2003)** Tr.3, "Something Strange about today" 5 min This track, more modern arrangements was added because of Gerd's request. * Groove Frank Van Bogaert : Human (B,2000?)? Known from Belgium group 1000 O : and their hit in new wave style "A.G.N.E.S." Frank, from Aartselaar makes now electronic music.
