Playlist “Psyche van Het Folk”, Radio Centraal,Antwerpen 2004-12-29 EXPERIMENTAL ACID FOLK (and beyond) : WITH LOTS OF ATTENTION TO SEDAYNE * Ploughmyth Sedayne : Magi (UK,2000)**°’ Tr.1, “Magi #1” 11 min Tr.8, “Magi #2” 13 min ->22 (slightly shortened & mixed in next track) Two very beautiful almost shamanic quasi-ethnical medieval like dance- trance improvisations, played by lots of acoustic and old instruments. These tracks can be compared somewhat to Atman’s style. Other tracks on the album are more repetitive improvisational. Sedayne considers himself as being part of the No-Age. He wrote on his website men tries to rule over nature because he cares more for his nurture. All creation itself has a Luciferian nature, which makes our earth like hell. To be aware of an evil nature is essential. Being creative in music works mediumistic. Sedayne’s music sets out a free improvisation to create this. But it are especially on the tracks/albums where he sets mind at the end to get a controlled result, he really becomes shamanistic in a true sense, and without pre-proclaimed thoughts, only creative structured awareness. On these later albums the emphasis is on minimal complex sets of repetitive trance-drones. The folk traditional “Thomas De Rhymer” with odd dual vocals arrangements have something otherworldly, as if from ghostly world. Review and info : http://psychedelicfolk.homestead.com/acidfolkreview7.html * here I remembered the natural disaster that took place in South-East Azia. * Obuh Rec. The Magic Carpathians Project: Enscorpius Carpathicus (POL,2003)**°’ Tr.6, “Water on the Hill ultimate” 4 min -51 (mixed in next track) Very calm minimal free / experimental folk evolution with some nature feel. The music needs a listener who’s able to go into the mood of the music, then to swim along. Atman was able to dig into the nature’s energy with ritual. This post- Atman project has in some way that connection with nature a bit as well, be it in a different, sound experimental way. With some imagination still this free creativity of this album has connections possible with natural elements, moving.. Where M.C. has a tendency to become monotone because its energy is almost too free and minimal, Atman had a structured inspiration from nature. Atman : Personal Forest (POL,1993)***°’ Tr.10, “Green Wild Blood” 1-end 5 min 56 Audio : http://serpent.pl/obuh/sounds/atman_personal10.mp3 Psychedelic trance ritual folk. This is my favourite Atman CD. Recommended ! Atman inspired their music from their ecologic workshops in the forests. The final ritual feast that was held caused the creativity of all participants. This music was inspired on those workshops, and by their travels in the east (Tibet,..) Like many of the new Finish psych-folk experimenters also this music has shamanistic tendencies. The music improved in recording quality, mixing, inspiration, etc. a lot since the debut on Lalalal. Recommended. Not as weird as it seems at first, but just beautiful music. After a loose “there is no death” mantra” oddly enough these nice pieces come up next : well structured and with truthness in energy. Highly recommended acid folk with ethnic mystic music-like reference as result. Played mostly with Ancient acoustic instruments. Some part of tracks are spoken word, other tracks are like trance dance concentrations. I could easily play the complete bonus track.
