Enjoyable and interesting. With some medieval touches. Second track with sitar & medieval instruments. Review at http://progressive.homestead.com/FINLANDFOLK.html * Hot Igloo Oy Santtu Karhu & Talvisovat : Hyvästit Karjala (Fin,200?)** Tr.1, "Armoittoman Lapsen Uni" 6 min 16 Possibly good song oriented folk-rock pop. First folk-rock track is one the best to pick out for those who don't understand Finnish. Review at http://progressive.homestead.com/FINLAND_GROUPS.html * Hot Igloo Cosmo Jones Beat Machine : Negrospiritualized (FIN,?)**° Tr.1, "Aboriginality" 3 min 19 Good enough grunge psych / rock / punkrock / bluesrock with dirty distorted vocals. Played a bit more aggressive & faster because in this part of Finland it's mostly minus 20 or something. Review at http://progressive.homestead.com/FINLAND_GROUPS.html -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THIRD PART : PSYCH FOLK / SSW FOLK DEMO'S (20 min.) Did not get broadcast because of expanded live gig. These track will get another chance in a couple of weeks. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Private Craig Owen : the smallest of things (US,2003)*°° Tr.1, "The smallest of things" 3 min Tr.2, "A Distant Shore" 3 min Tr.8, "Merrilyrin" 4 min Opening heart spiritual songs, sometimes religious, sometimes with a very nice warm "naivety" which sound pretty pure enough to be appreciated by me. From more or less ok until very good. These three track are my favourite (*** VG). May be when the rest would be finer when worked out with second female vocals, some flute etc. Promising. Review : http://psychedelicfolk.homestead.com/poor.html * Private The Kitchen Cynics : new songs (2003)***** Tr.1, "The Holy Creel" 3 min Tr.2, "Snowflakes, oatcakes & earthquakes" 3 min Alan Davidson really is a master in writing poetic songs from the edge of the conscious, and he always succeeds to inspire me and get me into writing poetry again, every time I stopped doing this. Beautiful background noises, instrumentation, and whispering vocals, and good texts. I hardly can listen to the texts when I get the inspiration as soon as I hear Alan's warm voice and use of poetic instrumentation. Surprising who Alan keeps to make such beautiful inspired introspective, but open music. Webpage : http://singersong.homestead.com/TheKitchenCynics.html Inspiration; text 4 min -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Inspiration on Kitchen Cynics : "Snowflakes, Oatcakes & earthquakes". Snowflakes are falling in a certain order, like snowdrops they dance in rows, like eggs are being garlic-ed and eaten. They're being looked at in rows of eggs, as falling flakes under a skirt. Inspiration of clouds of dustflakes on my head ; I cannot look because it snows in my eyes. Gerald Rough translation 12 sept 2003 (c) Gerald Van Waes -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Left for performance & music of Fern Knight, Margie Wenk & Aleck Red Fearn : 80 minutes. Two sets : 1. Alec Redfearn & The Eyeshores 2. Fern Knight & The Eyeshores Info : http://www.fernknight.com & http://www.aleckredfearn.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Camera Obscura Rec. Lifesmyth : Music for the third ear ( ?,2003)**° Tr.1, "Approaching" 2 min Tr.2, "Being alive" 3 min Tr.6, "It's all the same forever you know" 3 min Tr.12,"Last chance" 3 min I once reviewed the demo of this. Glad it made it as an official CD on this fine label. I'll call these tracks psychfolkpop, but it doesn't need that description and goes beyond it as well. This CD seems to be better recorded / produced as the demo. Nice to hear this.
