Playlist "Psyche van het Folk", Radio Centraal, Antwerpen, Belgium For 2003-02-02 : More Turkish Progressive, Crossover, psychedelica, Fusion. + some examples of the Persian Iranian progressive Music scene in '70's. * PART 1 : 60's : MAVI ISIKLAR Ada Müzik Mavi Isiklar (reissue 2002) Tr.10, "Kiz Sen Geldin Cerkes'ten" 3 min Tr.12, "Yaramaz Ne Oldu Sana" 3 min 6 Garage psych beat styled. Not always fantastic, but with some great tracks. The single collection has a beautiful booklet. But unfortunately there has not been taken care for a No Noise system remastering. Webpage : http://progressive.homestead.com/MAVI_ISIKLAR.html TPAO BATMAN ORKESTRASI : "Unutman" 4 min 10 May be the only nice track left I didn't play yet. Webpage : http://progressive.homestead.com/TPAO.html EROL BÜYÜKBURC : "Hop La Tu a Vu" 3 min "Cökertme" 5 min "Civ Civ Cikacak" 5 min 23 I checked his complete collection. These tracks were very good, the first as French chanson, the second in Anatolian Pop Rock style. No idea who the electric fuzz guitarist is. The third track is a prog rock band with hand percussion, nice female echoed backing vocals, and some accordion. Most of his collection however not really is worth discovering. Webpage : http://progressive.homestead.com/Erol.html CAHIT OBEN : "Karacaoglan" 3 min "362436" 4 min 7 30 Another single from the other master of kitsch that I missed. Beautiful multi-layered with its Turkish folk instruments, acoustic guitars, electric bass. The other track is a surf instrumental with great rhythms, acoustic and electric guitars, and electric bass. Info : http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/TurkishProgressive.html RIFAT ÖNZEL : "Dosta Bizden Selam Olsun" 3 min "Hele Hele Vay" 4 min 7 40 Great single from to me unknown artist. First track is Anadolu Folk fused as Anadolu Pop, with extra organ, electric bass. Second track is with fuzz guitars. * PART 2 : 70's : MUSTAFA ÖZKENT ORKESTRASI From "Gençlik Ile Elele" (***°) : Tr.3, "Dolana" 5 min Tr.4, "Karadir" 4 min Tr.6, "Carsamba" 3 min Tr.9, "Lorke" 3 min (shortened) Tr.10, "Ayaz" 3 min 18 58 One of the most funky, swinging (a-go-go) psychedelics I heard from Turkey. Recommended dance AND listening pleasure. Funky electric guitars and bass, jazzy organ, with rhythms in a jazzdrumming style, with some exotic percussion. Some Anatolian melodies too. Sometimes a bit easy listening psychedelics, great ! The only related in style recordings from Turkey I heard were from Gence 5. * PART 3 : PERSIAN / IRANIAN A-GO-GO, 70's : From "Mindexpanders 2" : ? : ? 5 min 63 single from Iran : nice A-Go-Go from '70's. Other side was Persian folk with moog,.. * PART 4 : TURKEY END 70's: HARDAL From "Nasil Ne Zamman" (1979)**° Tr.1, "Bir Yagmur" 7 min Tr.2, "Unuttum" 3 min 10 73 Pop item with funky and good keyboards elements. The group falls back to sweet song pop mostly, although the band has much progressive possibilities. One of the only for some reasons still interesting items from late 70's, early '80's, from the first generation after the Anadolu Pop movement. Review : http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/Turkprogreview1.html * PART 5 : IRANIAN PROGRESSIVE, 70's : KOUROSH YAGHMAIE From "The Best of" (date of recording ? *****) "Rayhan" 4 min 77 With beautiful electronic keyboards and organ, a traditional song accompanied by rock band (electric bass, electric guitar solo's. They take their time for the instrumental parts. -It reminds very much at the song that the Turkish Erkin Koray did, "Zuleyha", although were Kourosh's band performed a refined progressive version Erkin Koray's version is more rough and hard progressive rock : Erkin Koray : "Zuleyha" 4 min- "Khar" 7 min 88 Compared to Turkish music these Iranian progressive music is refined, takes its time to finish and work out the song. Turkish music often gives everything, with fire, in a short moment. The crossover style however has similarities. "Gol-E-Yakh" 5 min 93 Beautiful song melody line, soft voice. Would sound perfectly English if this would have sung in English. "Paeez" 5 min Nice intro with church organ like keyboards and acoustic guitars. Also with original keyboards to be followed. Great English styled psych pop. "Entezar" 5 min 103 A song with some funky elements and organ, in psychbeat / freakbeat style. "Sarab" 5 min Very beautiful song melody, with piano and cello, drums. "Havar" 4 min 112 The style here is again comparable with Anatolian Pop. High quality recording. Played very relaxed again. "Tan-E-Choobi" 4 min 116 Also this track is comparable with the Anatolian Pop. With rock band with 2 electric guitars, rhythm guitar, electric bass, drums, organ. Review, cover : http://progressive.homestead.com/Persiareviews.html REVIVAL From "Revival" (1979)***° Tr.1, "History of the World" 14 min Tr.4, "One Land in Alaska" 5 min 19 125 The style is like Yatha Siddra's 'Meditation Mass' combined with jazzy and free jazz structures. A few meditative tracks, and some more progressive tracks with free jazz Fusion structure. Original style. A (very good) product from Al Basim, who recorded this album with some musicians in the States. He sadly was assassinated by his return to Iran (by Khomeini) , because there were Jewish musicians involved. Reviews and pictures : http://progressive.homestead.com/Persiareviews.html * PART 5 : NEW TURKISH FUSION RELEASES Double Moon Rec. Ilhan Ersahin : Wonderland (2002)***° Tr.4, "Ask" 8 min Tr.7, "Sensiz Yasamam" 6 14 140 Good example of modern beats with some Turkish folk and more jazz, and beyond, in the so called 'Beyogli beat' style. The singers that appear and the jazz influence are influenced by the American music styles. Review : http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/Turkprogreview1.html Double Moon rec. Laço Tayfa : Hicaz Dolap (2002)*** Tr.6, "Püsküllü" 4 min 4 145 Fusion style with folk styles, mostly this is Gypsy Folk with jazz, modern sounds.
