In the Flemish part we can hardly find some fine examples. If something interesting it's mostly connected with the French part. French official media always was and possibly still is more open than the Flemish part who until now never experienced a progressive consciousness, or such a boom in music. Secondly lots of people from the Flemish part easily avoid mental cooperations with their foreigners because of stupid reasons. Dutch people are "too different"" or "too alike", the Germans have conquered our country so Germans and German language is still often associated with Hitler in the mind of people, so real cooperations rarely occur. I can find even more cow farm brain mentalities to stop us. Luckily mentality in record companies is slightly changing. There's a lot of talent in the Flemish part, but because of lack musical education trough media and several other similar reasons real progressive music never made so much here it to an extend of fine development. * Musea Dragon (B,197?)*** Tr.1, "Introduction" 5 min Tr.3, "Leave me with tears" 5 min Tr.6, "Crystal Ball" 7 min 17 Very different tracks. A few lesser tracks too, but keyboards on the played tracks is superb. * Charly Rec. Here and Now : Give and Take (F,1977)*** Tr.3, "Grate Fire of London" 8 min Tr.5, "Seventies Youth" 5 min 13 30 This group is directly related with Gong, so there are similarities with them as floating psychedelics. Review at http://progressive.homestead.com/progreview.html * Cuneiform Rec. Arkham (B,1970-1972)**** Some members of Here and Now occurred in Arkham. It does not always have best quality in recording, but musically this is the top quality of Canterbury music. There's also weird organ based experiment on track 5. Tr.3, "Melancholic profession with anticipated rupture" 5 min (fragm) Tr.5, Bleriot : "Visibility Poor" 5 min 15 (fragment) Review at http://progressive.homestead.com/progreview.html Webpage : http://www.cuneiformrecords.com/bandshtml/arkham.html Soundfile fragment : http://www.cuneiformrecords.com/realaudio/Upstairs.ram & http://www.artist-shop.com/cuniform/arkham.ram Review http://www.artist-shop.com/cuniform/ "Arkham is a legendary band in the annals of European progressive rock. Arkham was co-founded by two musicians who subsequently became two of the best-known known names in progressive rock: Jean-Luc Manderlier and Daniel Denis. Manderlier, Arkham's keyboardist and sole composer, would later become a member of the French band, Magma, recording on that band's landmark work, "Mekanïk Destructïw Kommandöh". During its brief yet highly active and visible two years of existence, Arkham played countless live concerts but never released a recording. Compiled from tapes made at various Arkham performances and rehearsals in Belgium between 1970-72, this self-titled CD documents the band's music throughout its existence. Arkham is an essential document of a band which holds a key place in the history of European progressive rock." Interview with Trigaux : http://www.rainofthought.com/Winter98/TrigauxInterview.html * Cuneiform Rec. Nebelnest : Nova Express (F,2002)***° Somewhat heavy and energetic post rock RIO styled group influenced by Shylock, King Crimson and Univers Zero. Good musicians and clear ideas. Some similarities with Happy Family because of its heavy compositions, but with more high sound synths. I read this album might be more structured as their first album. Very good production. Recommended to the more heavy RIO fans. Dün : Eros (F,1981)**** One of the better and best very fine structured records of chamber music rock, also through the use and choice of instruments, and through a strong rhythm section. Also the alternate tracks are very good. Corte dei Miracoli (IT,1976)***** Tr.1, " ..e verrà l'uomo " 8 min 70 Good track to go from Dün to Italian progressive. Very nice composed. * Vinyl Magic Panna Fredda : Una (IT,197 ?)**° Tr.5, "Il vento la luna e pulcini blu" 10 min 80 OK prog, with some organ, some hard prog, some singing. Always ok, but never special, except for the very good track 5 with harpsichord ? which has a much more original approach. I need more time to appreciate this album. * Warner Fonit Raccomandata Ricevuta Ritorno : Per..Un Mondo di Cristallo (IT,1972)***** Tr.2, " Su Una Rupe " 5 min Tr.3, " Il Mondo Cade (Su Di Me) " 7 min Tr.5, " l'ombra " 4 min 96 Use of spinet here.
