Playlist "Psyche van het Folk", Radio Centraal, Antwerpen New progressive releases, and some before and after stories. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Aftermath Dogstar Poets : Off-Planet (UK,2002)* Tr.8, "Fare Thee Well" 7 min 7 Beautifully arranged song with nice combination of dulcimer with electric slide Guitar, voice (and keyboards). Most of the album is more into pop progressive. Made with original Jade Warrior members. Info : http://www.hinotemusic.com/ & http://www.dogstarpoets.com/ Fragment of this track : http://www.dogstarpoets.com/audio/fare%20thee%20well.mp3 * Private Alpha III : Infernus (BRAZ,2001)*** Tr.1, "Letros" part 2 big fragment : 311-max 1200 10 min 17 Project based upon "La Divinia Commedia" describing the mood / atmosphere (related with the Gustave Doré pictures) very well. With lots of keyboards. This is a beautiful track which succeeds to create the perfect mood from the novel as if seen from within a novice's perception who experiences the whole story and its destiny with dark passages all still not withholding the disciple to continue its straight path. Gothic progressive. Review at http://progressive.homestead.com/BRAZILREVIEW.html * Private Alpha III : The Book of Sacred Magik (BRAZ,2003)*** Tr.2, "Sacred Magik" fragment 3 min Tr.3, "Calendra" 12 min 15 32 Especially "Calendra" is outstanding ! for its 'Hawkwind (with Lemmy)' styled psychedelic (heavy)rock improvisation (with bass, drums, distorted and electric guitars -with musically fitting distorted effects-, electronic sounds, mellotron). Review at http://progressive.homestead.com/BRAZILREVIEW.html * Ant-Man Anthony De Genaro : The Message Service -ambient transformation music-(US,2003)** Tr.7, "Friday" (fragment) 3 min Semi-acoustic ambient guitar sounds mixed with some percussion and Tibetan bells. (review will be published at http://singersong.homestead.com/REV.html)) * Private Raimundo Rudolfo : to LIVE a dream, official bootleg (VEN,2003)***°(°) Tr.1, "Esperanza" 4 min -> 347 Tr.5, "Esperanza" 12 min 049-> end Tr.8, "Bourre" (Bach -with electric fuzz guitars)) 1 min 17 49 Crafty Art folk Symphonic with Fusion touches. Almost 80 minutes live album. Incredible genius harp solo at track 5. A must have heard track. Small review at http://progressive.homestead.com/VENREVIEW.html * Priv./Gob.deChi Cangrejo (CL,2001)**° Tr.8, "Hacia Ti" 5 min Tr.4, "Riff del Affghelito" 3 min 8 A beautiful sensitive tempered canto song with nice accompaniment (-acoustic guitar, hand percussion, classical and other arrangements-) and a fantastic crafty break beat (DJ) mix with folk and hard rock elements. Almost all tracks are more directing towards the firstly played track (: -canto prog pop-). The group has poetic aspirations / texts. Review at http://progressive.homestead.com/CHILI_GROUPS.html * Private Raimundo Rudolfo : to LIVE a dream, official bootleg (VEN,2003)***°(°) Tr.4, "Suenos" (fragment) 11 min Starts with classical guitar, violin, flute, and beautiful female vocals, then continues in a progressive / symphonic rock style. Fantastic fragment. Complete track is almost 30 minutes. * Mellow Records Campo Di Marte (I,1973)***** Tr.1, "Primo Tempo" 8 min Tr.4, "Quarto Tempo" 4 min Tr.5, "Quinto Tempo" 6 min Tr.6, "Sesto Tempo" 5 min Tr.7, "settimo tempo" fragment max ->053 24 One of the most crafty Italian heavy prog / classical inspired symphonic releases, with lots of contrast and themes. A must have. It was incredibly difficult to leave out tracks here. A very powerful release and amongst my favourite albums of all times, and also one of most perfect albums I heard so far, and one of the best from Italy. "Quarto tempo" has a Bach ? theme. More info at http://progressive.homestead.com/ITALYGROUPS.html & http://www.enricorosa.com/Campo%20di%20Marte%20documents.htm * Private/Do-Re Rosae (=Campo Di Marte II) : Eva Rosa & Enrico Rosa (I/DK 2002)***? Tr.6, "Flamenco Variation" 5 min (a very crafty and inventive flamenco improvisation ; wow !) Tr.7, 8, "Back in Time / Trotto" (E.Rosa / An.12th century) 4 min (both composition are in medieval style) There were more instrumental parts being used for the Campo Di Marte project. These can be found here. Altough not being progressive music on its own, Enrico see this release therefore as being part II, completing the material of Campo Di Marte's repertoire. * Private/Do-Re Argenti & Rosa : to the old friendship (I,2002)? Nostalgic fusion style : piano / guitar / flute trio. * Do-Re Enrico Rosa : Passione & Musica (I/DK,2002)? Tr.5, "Sunset" 5 min Flamenco (jazz) fusion, emphasized on acoustic guitar instrumental music. I choose the most powerful and inventive guitar playing track. Enrico Rossa now lives in Danmark. Tr.6, Vangelo ?" 6 min Tr.4, "Via Larga" 7 min 13 Most accessible of both early releases I have, in typical Italian symphonic prog style. * Private Jumbo : Passing By 1991-2001 (I,2001)*° Tr.1, "Black Hole in a DNA" 3 min Tr.7, "Piccolo Fiore" 2 min 5 Nowadays the group was reformed around the earlier guitarist. The CD obviously is a more personal construction of one personal vision in relation to the band. First track is with a Gilmourish guitar play, second chosen track is a nice melodic jazzy piano piece with some synthesizer. Info : http://progressive.homestead.com/JUMBO.html * Black Rills Rec. Waterfall (CH,2001)*** Tr.1, "Remember Mitch" 6 min Tr.5, "Waterfall-the unknown light" 14 min 144 Suiss group. Area Uriah Heep & similar prog pop. Two very good tracks. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog.html * Market Square Luminos : Seize the Day (UK?,2003)*** Tr.2, "A small boy, a bird in history" 5 min 150 New prog pop group, with music based upon some 70's and new prog examples (Jadis, IQ, Camel, ..). The style is more referring than a pure musical or soul's inspiration. It does not have very good male singers, it is a bit limited in the drumming, but the album has a very good balanced studio sound, has fine electric guitars musicians, and a very strong female voice fitting nicely with the band's sound. The album itself is worth to try if interested in Neo Progressive Pop. Info : www.marketsquarerecords.com The label Market Square release before a very good more recent Steve Tilston release and a splendid Bert Jansch tribute compilation made by likewise / similar minded musicians. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other playlists : http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/2003.html General index page : www.radiocentraal.be/psychevanhetfolk Detailed index page : http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/index.html Receive weekly this playlist before the radioshow with new reviews and additional comments : ontvang wekelijks playlist vòòr de radio-uitzending : Subscribe: psychevanhetfolk-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
