Playlist "Psyche van het Folk", Radio Centraal, Antwerpen, Belgium : 2002-10-2 : (mostly some new releases related with singers). - MELITA OSOJNIK & HER FORMER BAND SEDMINA : * Mellotron Rec. Sedmina : Melita & Veno Dolenc (YU,1980)*** Tr.6, "Angel Varuh" 4 min Tr.8, "Etuda" 4 min First album by this former Yugoslavian group. Nice. * Mellotron Rec. Sedmina : II Dejanje (YU,1982)****° Tr.1, "Gledalisce" 5 min Tr.4, "Circus" 10 min Tr.7, "Kolo (za Dusko)" 10 min Instrumentally much more worked out / progressive (folk) album. Highly recommended. One of my all time favorite folk albums. Male / female duo and solo vocals, acoustic guitar(s), clarinet ? or sax, violin, sparse handpercussion ? Imagine Mormos with the instrumentation of Jablkon often pastoral vocals, towards a similar improvisation mood like Haizea. The beautiful surreal harmonies makes this item purely musically interesting too. * Nika Rec. Melita Osojnik : Zar Ptica (SL,2000)*** Tr.1, "Angel Varuh" 4 min Tr.6, "Zemlja" 3 min Tr.11,"Igraj v Kolu, Jabolko" 4 min 41 Some tracks the style and female voice is not that different. A bit more classical arranged / song oriented. Not from an inventive / progressive / pure inspiration level but basically from a "perfect performance" level idea. "Zemlja" is beautifully classical inspired voice and arrangement. The two other songs are from Veno Dolenc. * Didakta Sedmina (Klarisa M. Jovanovic & Veno Dolenc) : Stekleni Cas (SL,1999)*** Tr.3, " Nezakonska Mati " 3 min 45 The new singer for Sedmina. Different voice. Often folk inspired. More info at http://psychedelicfolk.homestead.com/sedmina.html - HEATHER MC LEOD vs CARA DILLON : * Private Heather McLeod : Funny Thing (1997)***°° Tr.1, "Solace" 4 min Tr.4, "A past forgotten" 3 min Tr.10,"True Fortune" 5 min 12 57 One of my top 3 favorite singer-songwriters folk albums and favorite voices. Romantic to the core. Beautiful texts and music. Highly recommended. Music that touched my heart deeply. * Private Heather McLeod : Bones (2002)**° Tr.2, "Cool Water" 4 min Tr.9, "Evidence of Sin" 4 min Tr.10,"Blue nude" 3 min 11 70 Voice is still beautiful. With some wider commercial range of genres. More info, review : http://singersong.homestead.com/newwriters.html * Rough Trade Cara Dillon (2001)**° Tr.1, "Black is the colour" 4 min Some known and traditional /original songs in modern folk version, nicely produced. Comparable similarities in mood / mood in voice mood with Heather only on "Black is the colour". - TALKING TREES, LIFESMYTH : * September Gurls Rec. Talking Trees (UK,2002)**° Tr.2, "Dear Mrs.Summerset" 4 min Tr.4, "Wicken Fen" 4 min Tr.9, "Dance with the wind" 4 min 12 86 English styled Folkrockpsych pop. Much better produced/balanced compared with demo. Somewhat basic in singer-songwriting, but nice in mood. * Private Lifesmyth : Music for the Third Ear (US,2002)**° Tr.6, "It's all the same forever you know" 3 min Tr.7, "What I came with" 5 min Tr.8, "The Polish Question" 3 min Tr.9, "Beyond a Star" 3 min 14 100 Psychfolkpop with dreamy male vocals. A bit like Kaleidoscope. With potential. More info at http://psychedelicfolk.homestead.com/Psychfolkpopreview.html - GREG WEEKS vs PETER DALTREY (Kaleidoscope) & : DAMIEN YOUTH vs SHIRLEY COLLINS * Keyhole Rec. Greg Weeks : Bleecker Station (1998)***° Tr.1, "Front to Back" 2 min Tr.7, "Down a dark corridor" 5 min 107 Reviews at http://psychedelicfolk.homestead.com/poorminstrels.html One of the more intimate new singer-songwriters, recalling Nick Drake and the like. * Secret Sister Music Greg Weeks : Fire in the arms of the sun (1998)****° Tr.1, "Tin Angel of death" 5 min Tr.2, "Starless" 2 min Tr.3, "Joan of Arc" 5 min 12 120 Introverted Nick Drake like beautiful compilation of songs. Mostly just guitar / voice. Dark in light. Recommended. * DaDaBing ! Greg Weeks : Awake Like Sun (2002)*** ? Tr.2, "Made" 3 min Tr.5, "The One True Song" 5 min 128 Odd use of electronic/special keyboard instruments (mellotron,..) with folk ssw. This might make lots of the songs better. It's better worked out. A record that needs more time for me to fully understand. More info at http://psychedelicfolk.homestead.com/poorminstrels.html * Chelsea Records Peter Daltrey & Damien Youth : Nevergreen (2000)* Tr.5, 3 min Release with neo/gothic folk references and pretentious singer-songwriting. Not as brilliant at all as it seems to be. Lacks real depth/logic in story. Some hints of and towards a certain mood. This track stands out a bit for me. Review at the next page : http://singersong.homestead.com/Singer.html * Pier Rec. Owen Hand (SC,1965/1966)* Tr.11, "You, like the sun" 4 min 135 A traditional folk songs singer with a little bit charm but too often within the far too obvious. Makes me hate folk music for it now and then. Mood of voice at his best reminds at other more known UK folk(rock) singers, but it's more mediocre. Short review http://www.middlepillar.com/catalog/browse.pl/artist/HAND__OWEN/ * Fledg'ling Records Shirley Colins : The Power of the true love Knot (UK,2000)**** Tr.1, "Bonnie Boy" 4 min Tr.9, "Greenwood Laddie" 2 min 141 One of the masters of folk. Nothing compared to this. With ISB members. - WURTEMBERG * Musea Rec. Wurtemberg : Rock Fantasia Opus 9 (F ?,1980)****° Tr.1, "Rockopus 7" 7 min Tr.2, "Sous-Titre" 3 min 150 Tr.3, "Berceuse Gratinée -Faites le Mur" 3 min Info http://www.cs.uu.nl/people/jur/reviews/rockfantasiaopus9.html (with sound) Review http://64.177.137.64/reviews/rockfantasia.html & http://www.progressor.net/review/wurtemberg_1980.html Great Folk Symphonic / Chamber Folk symphonic work. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other playlists at http://psychevanhetfolk.homestead.com/2002.html General index page of the radioprogram at www.radiocentraal.be/psychevanhetfolk
