Cabezas De Cera : Late/MetalMusica -aleaciones aleatorias (MEX,2005)***
This well compiled, luxury package double CD of Metalmusica shows an improvisational rather jazzrock group that uses besides rock & jazz instruments, various metal self-built string and percussion instruments, mostly based upon known instruments. The focus is not too much on these instruments, which on their own give only a touch of spheres and kind of exoticism, but on the improvised jazz fusion music.
CD1 (recorded june-july 2004) :
“Fundición” has even a strong and tough progressive rock touch, and a snake-comes-to-life energy/power with calm metallic and natural backgrounds. We hear sax improvisations and heavy distorted electric bass, and rhythmic changes. “Armatoste” has more leaning on the spherical mood of experimental metallic strings. The varied “Nocturne Incandescente” track surprises with 12-string guitar arrangements in the composition. “Espejismo” uses some kalimba-like stringed instruments, combined with acoustic and electric guitar and percussion, adding some exotic fusion touch. “Milagro” uses the nice rich dulcimer like sounds of the self-built 8-and 12-chord harp. “Mutacion” is different, as a Beafheartian bluesrock on a strange sounding guitar, called the tricordio, combined with drums and a few extra strange semi-electrified string sounds. “Indomable”uses calm spheric and melodic keyboards, some stringed amplified guitar with here an there exotic chords, combined with electric bass, drums and percussion (including tabla?), making a nice progressive fusion style.“Destiempo” has a nice skilful acoustic guitar with tabla improvisation, which evolves to a group’s improvisation. A similar improvisation from acoustic to a more progressive drive, with heavy bass, keyboards and electronica, and another sax improvisation with mostly acoustic sounds, is exposed in “Enjambre”.
CD2 : 2000-2004 :
The second CD seems like a compilation of live performances and improvisations, in their typical progressive fusion rock style. The compilation of the first 5 tracks sound like a concert on its own, with its own calm grooviness. 6th track is a jazz electric guitar improvisation. The next couple of tracks takes us to other, exotic sounds, with different instruments and more ideas, with much variation in sounds, building up, reshaping and making a nice conclusion.
