Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/newsingers-22.html#anchor_635 * Duic-i-Tone The Finches : Human Like A House (US,2007)***° Tr.4, “Nightswimming.AR” 4 min Innocent songs. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/newsingers-22.html#anchor_621 * Drag City Mountain Home (US,2007)****° Tr.1, “The Sparrow” 6 min -35 + poem Newest project from the Philadelphia crew, with Marissa Nadler mostly as lead singer and as one of the composers. A timeless track, for sure. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview20.html#anchor_687 * Riverman The Seventh Dawn : Sunrise + 4 (US,rec.1970-1976,re.2007)***°’ Tr.5, "Earth's Lullaby" 4 min + poem Tr.6, “Sunrise” 4 min Tr.14,“Of Ellen” 3 min 11-56 Reissue of the American psychfolk album in Agincourt style. It has a charming and sweet almost vulnerable innocence. The makers should look back to it with a bit of shame because they were so young. Just imagine how youth today has a much harder time in expressing a positive sense with their hearts. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/reissue4.html#anchor_254 * VHF/Eclipse Fern Knight : Music for witches and alchemists (US,rec.2003,pub.2006/2007)****' Tr.4, "Murder of Crows" 4 min + poem (Tr.5, “Lintworme Pt.I”) 4 min + poem Tr.6, “Marble Grey” 4 min + poem Tr.7, “"Shingle Driver" 4 min 16-72 An early cooperation comparable of what happens on the Drag City sub-label, with similar and comparable musicians, a very talent s/sw related work, with great arrangements. A timeless work, which just recently was released on LP as well. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/folk.html#anchor_44 * Clear-Spot Time is a Spiral #2 : Larkin Grimm -10”-(US,rec.2006,pub.2007)**** Tr.1, “Entrance” 5 min -68 Where Larkin Grimm showed before her expressions full of fantasies, this recording, showing much more her pure self without arrangements still surprised me. A wonderful session. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview13.html#anchor_325 * Locust Starless & Bible Black (UK,2007)***’ Tr.7, “B.b” 7 min -75 A brilliant, clearly focused track with clear Pentangle/Bert Jansch influences. Review : http://psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview21.html#anchor_701 * Sanctuary Bert Jansch : Edge Of A dream (UK,2002)***°' Tr.2, “All this remains” 4 min Tr.5, “I cannot keep from crying” 4 min -8 -76 A turning point for Bert Jansch, looking back on his past live, with regret but not going too deep into detail. First track is sung by Hope Sandovall (Mazzy Star). The guitar work is of course recognisable, but there’s used some electric guitar too. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/newsingers-22.html#anchor_615 * VHF Aleksander Turnquist : Faint at the Loudest Hour (US,2007)**** Nice guitar album. See review. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/guitar11.html#anchor_311 * BGO Michael Chapman : Window / Wrecked Again -2cd- (UK,1970/1971,re.2004)****/***° Also Michael Chapman’s early releases are now all reissed again. “Wrecked Again” is a comparable album as a realization of all what has gone wrong, with the personal lifestyle. After this Chapman left to the US. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/reissue5.html#anchor_212 * PSF Kim Doo Soo : 10 Days Butterfly (SK,2007)***’’ Tr.2, “Song of Pathless Time” 5 min -81 + poem A very softly sung, almost whispery album of Kim Doo Soo, his first in years, now published in Japan. I read the translation of the poetic songtext. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/newsingers-22.html#anchor_629 * Avex io Kan Mikami : Bang! (JAP,197?)****° Tr.5, “Night of Fish Poaching” 6 min -87 Kan Mikami’s 3rd album, unfortunately still difficult to find. After this he left the scene for a while and returned as a more recognisable bluesy improviser, with some avant-garde moves. This album is associated with the comic front cover. He expresses different characters and worlds. On this track he manages beautifully to sing in a jazz style. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/JAPANreviews2.html#anchor_79 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Fallout Joy Unlimited (1970,re.2007)**° Tr.4, “I hold no grudge” 4 min -92 Great rock-driven track with nice orchestrations, a fine conclusion for the Radioshow.
