The first track is the singer solo with Apalachian dulcimer, the second with tambura, guitars, strings. A very nice album, her best so far. The harpist you hear is Baby Dee. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview18.html#anchor_582 * Camera Obscura Rusalnaia (US,2008)****' Tr.3, “Kindling” 6 min Tr.4, “Rusalnaia” 4 min 10 -26 Rather conceptual duo-project with Sharron Kraus, with songs inspired on calls from nature/seasonal change versus home comforts. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview13.html#anchor_326 * Durtro/Jnana Sharron Kraus : The Fox's Wedding (US,2008)****° Tr.1, “Brigid” 4 min Tr.4, “July Skies” 4 min Tr.11,“Made my home” 3 min 11 -37 Songs about care and security in situations and relationship against uneasy situations. Created with the power of writing new traditionals, this is a well produced, rather conceptual, new masterpiece of Sharron Kraus. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview21.html#anchor_721 * preview Silver Summit (US,2008)**** Tr.3, “Breathing your life away” 5 min -42 Future release for Drag City’s sublabel (run by Greg Weeks). Slightly comparable to White Magic. More when it’s out later this year. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview21.html#anchor_709 * Reddeerclub Hepzibah Broom -EP- (UK,2008)***° Tr.2, “Potters Song” 4 min 46 Psych-folk cdr of bizarre and beautiful voice with wide vocal range of expressions, inspired by forests, peyote and ceramic art making. This peaceful beautiful track is just voice and guitar. Review : http://www.psychedelicfolk.com/acidfolkreview21.html#anchor_732 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- PART 2 : new “psych” releases related with Singer-Songwriters / Song music : * Rhino Essra Mohawk : Primordial Lovers MM (US,1970/1974;re.2000)***°° Tr.12, “New Skins For Old” 3 min Tr.19, “I cannot Forget” (1974) 5 min 8 -54 Now sold out, limited reissue of second and third soulful folk flavoured rock album. These are my two favourite tracks. I guess this limited edition must be sold out by now. * MummyPump Essra Mohawk : Revelations of the Secret Diva (US,1967-1996pub.2007)**°° Tr.3, “Bizarre Beginnings” (1967?) 1 min Tr.16,“Heaven waits so patiently” (1996) 4 min Overview of her works. First track is with Frank Zappa. She was part of the Mothers for a while. A different version of “I cannot Forget” is included on this compilation too. Essra survived with her expressions through the 80s while including different production influences. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/reissue5.html#anchor_197 * Northstream Monte Northstrom : After All... (Can,2008)**°’ Tr.4, “Invisible” 5 min -64 Rather enjoyable resume of Monte’s songwriting from the Waiting & Ptarmigan until more recent inspirations, with one conceptual album and the tracks looking back. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/reviews.html#anchor_42 * Guerssen Yves & Serge & Victor : Cagibi (F,1975,re.2008)***° Tr.10, “the summer’s gone” 4 min Tr.11, “Whatever it is called” 4 min 8 -79 Rather lofi, unpretentious, very enjoyable private recording with CSN/Nashville flavours. For me, these are the two strongest tracks. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/psych2.html#anchor_232 * Guerssen Bill Quick : Maravillosa gente (US/SP,rec.1971-1972)***° Tr.5, “Somebody” 4 min Tr.6, “Don’t think you’re listening” 3 min 7 -71 Hippie pop & folk done with great Spanish & Venezuelan musicians. Unfortunately Spanish public wasn’t waiting for a hippie vision in English, no matter how talent and visionary & honest. Both cd reissues are only printed in a 500 edition. Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/reissue5.html#anchor_225 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- PART 3 : new releases : Psych * Fallout Rainbow : After The Storm (US,1968,re.2008)*** Tr.7, “Prelude to the music makers’ concerto” 2 min -82 Somewhat chaotic circus-psychedelia. This short track gives a bit of an idea. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/psych2.html#anchor_225 * demo The Divine Baze Orchestra : Once we were born...(S,2008)**** Tr.1, “Dance” 7 min -90 Incredible how Sweden continues to deliver surprises, and is being able to make further continuations of the 70s. This is one of the strongest tracks from the album. Most of it is calmer, less ambitiously structured and contrasting. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/sweden3.html#anchor_201 * Nasoni Don Juan Matus (PER,2008)*** Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/PERUreview.html#anchor_62 * Raig Tigrova Mast (CR,rec.2005,pub.2007)****' Tr.7, “Intermezzo 11” 1 min Tr.9, “Di Sam Bio Jucer, Danas Je Lose” 2 min Tr.11,“Zlate kalasjnikov” 4 min Tr.12,“Intermezzo 15” 1 min Tr.14,“Technika Narodu” 3 min Tr.18, “Sreca na Skrabeju” 1 min 12 -102 Brilliant heavy technical (but not too technical) psych mixed with organ fun (Mikrokorg) and with Balkan, Middle Eastern/Arab elements, and a bit of techno- punk, from Croatia. Produced by Ruins leader Yoshida Tatsuya.. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog22.html#anchor_286 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- PART 4 : IMPROVISED/COMPOSED NEW JAZZ/ROCK/PROG MUSIC : * private Sun City Girls : Singles volume 1 (US,rec.1988)*** Reissue of the underground indierock trio. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/prog11c.html#anchor_185 * Keremos Bal des Boiteux : Small House, Wide Open View (B,2006)***’ Fine chambermusic-rock band with small folk flavour. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/belgium3.html#anchor_144 * ReRec. Lol Coxhill, Charles Hayward, Hugh Hopper, Orphy Robinson, Robert Wyatt : Clear Frame (UK,2007)***' New improvisation, perhaps best to listen from start to finish. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/softmachine2.html#anchor_56 * Moonjune The Wrong Object : Stories From The Shed (B,2008)****’ Tr.1, “Sonic Riot at the holy palate” 3 min Tr.13, “The Unbelievable Truth, part I” 6 min Tr.14, “The Unbelievable Truth, part II” 5 min 14 -116 Great Belgian “Jazz band with rock strength”, with a certain rock strength. Tr.1, “Ceremoney” 1 min Tr.4, “Disko Boy” 4 min Made for fun mostly Balkan-dance club/pop music.
