New psych albums mostly.. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Grading in playlist done by lifting out tracks. *ok **g ***vg **** perf ***** can’t get better than this/a must-have with ° for some tracks better & ‘ for upgrade for certain reasons --------------------------------------------------------------------------- intro : 2 min --------------------------------------------------------------------------- PART 1 : PSYCH * UT 126 : Graveyard Paradise (N,1966-68,re.2008)**° Tr.5, “MES” 4 min 6 60s psychpop/freakbeat/folk-rock. Complete compilation. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/sixties3.html * Gear Fab The Monocles & The Higher Elevation : The Spider, The Fly & The boogie Man (US,1965-1969,re.2008)*°°° Tr.3, “Yu don’t know” 3 min Tr.4, “A Little Bit Less” 3 min Tr.7, “Boogie Man” 3 min 9-15 I pretty much like the American mid 60s period between rock’n roll and garage/beat/freakbeat where there were associations with innocent horror themes. This still is teenage inspired. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/sixties4.html#anchor_245 * El/Cherry Red Gilberto Gil : The Sound Of Revolution 1968-69 (BRAZ,1968-1969,re.2008)**°° Tr.9, “Pé da Rosiera” 4 min The two most interesting albums from Gilberto Gil compiled onto one. This still is a mixed bag of Tropicalia mixed with the ethnobeat style of Os Mutantes and song driven music, and a brass band association in some tracks. Never the less Gilberto was send into prison by the junta, and later forced to leave the country for a while. Strangely enough he made it, with a different government, to minister of culture just recently. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/sixties4.html#anchor_247 * Rhino Secos & Molhados (BRAZ,1973)**°° Tr.6, “Assim Assado” 3 min I traded this remastered version (with terrific sound) for a copy of DAAU.. This band and especially one of the member’s presence was much more a free expression, especially on television compared to Gilberto Gil some years earlier.. An album with strong elements. This track has fuzz & hard rock elements mixed with folk acoustic percussion, flute. * Finderskeepers V.A. : Well Hung -20 Funk Rock Eruptions From Beneath Communist Hungary - Volume 1 (HU,re.2008)***°?? Tr.2, Omega Redstar : “Egy Lany..” 4 min Tr.4, Hungaria : “Vegallomas” 6 min Tr.5, Kati Kovacs : “Add mar.. ” 3 min Tr.6, Corvina : “A Tüz” 5 min 18-33 This only just arrived in the mailbox, so no review yet. These tracks are great energetic hard-rock, worth discovering. I could hardly stop me from choosing tracks for airplay. It’s one of the first compilations that finally reach us from Hungary, altough some bands are more easily traceable like Omega. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/Hungary.html#anchor_258 * Shadoks Days (DK,1970)***’??? Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/DANMARK.html#anchor_233 * Shadoks Blues Addicts (DK,1970)***°° Tr.4, “Hailow” 11 min Danmark knew a period of a hippie jam psych scene, remaining influenced by the Swedish scene. This band had a Hendrix/Blue Cheer,… influence. There are more “normal” acid-blues-rock tracks but also more incredible, heavy acid rock. This track has one of the best heavy blues guitar solos that I know. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/DANMARK.html#anchor_228 * Record Heaven Blowback : Morning Wood (S,2008)*° Mostly rather primitive stonerrock. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/sweden4.html#anchor_207 * Fallout Terence : An Eye For An Ear (CAN/US,1969,re.2008)**°' Tr.6, “Fool amid the traffic” 5 min Review : http://singersong.homestead.com/reissue6.html#anchor_272 * Drag City Yahowa presents : Children Of The Sixth Root Race : Songs from the source (US,1973,re.2008)***°° Tr.2, “Godmen” 6 min Tr.10,“Catastrophy” 4 min Tr.11, “Go with the flow” 6 min Tr.12, “We are the dinosaurs” 7 min 23 Recently found tape from a more song orientated rehearsal from the Yahowa tribe, led by songwriter Djin more often. The second track is a great Apocalyptic vision of something that would have happened already if you hear the song. And even if it didn’t happen from start to finish, it’s great to hear the music. These are the splendid highlights of that session, powerful and progressive at times. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/psych3.html#anchor_263 * Process Eric Davis : The Source –book+cd- (US,2007)***** Tr.3, Yahowa 13: “Live at Beverly Hills” 12 min -90 This splendid book with beautiful photographs explains the background of the Yahowa tribe well. The CD highlight is this unreleased highschool concert by Yahowa 13. Review : http://progressive.homestead.com/yahowa.html (soon) * Sulatron Lava (S,2008)***° Tr.5, “det lyckliga mongot” 8 min Very good jam-psych.
